Exclamation What can I do to keep my puppy off the furniture?

My puppy is 11 weeks old and insists on getting on the furniture. I am continuously telling him OFF and putting him on the floor. This morning we went through the same thing, he jump on the couch I tell him OFF and put him on the floor but this time as soon as I turned my back he jumped back on the couch and peed!!!!! Is there something I can spray that will keep him off? Any suggestion will be greatly appriciated!

The only sprays I'm aware of are ones to keep dogs from urinating in the same spot...
Does he have/like his crate? you could always put that right by the furniture and give him a treat when he chooses his spot instead of yours. Just suggestions, I'm not sure what to do at all. My puppy's too small to get on the couch by himself :]

He doesnt mind his crate when its time for bed. When i put him in it for the night he willingly goes in and is quiet till around 2:30-3:00am but if i put him in it during the day he screems like someone is killing him!

You're not teaching him that getting on the furniture is wrong. What you're telling him is to get OFF when you say so.....not get up there in the first place. You have to stop him BEFORE he jumps up there....at the very first tensing of muscles/ready to jump. That's the moment you need to catch with a sharp UTTT! or NO.

Whats wrong with the word off I have been using that for years and all my dogs know what it means? I don't like no it is used to often in the house.

I agree with above try and catch him before he jumps.

Re: What can I do to keep my puppy off the furniture?

I would contain him in a safe room with an x-pen, or baby gates, or, use
baby gates to keep him out of the living room, until you can properly train for "off." Using the "EhEh" sound is effective on most dogs in stopping them - at least momentarily - from what they were doing, or about to do.

I don't allow young puppies to have free run of the house. I don't have the time or the inclination to be running after them constantly, so I'm proactive instead of reactive!

Re: What can I do to keep my puppy off the furniture?

Thanks for all the advice! Since yesterday he has not tried to get on the furniture at all!!! I know alot of people suggest to leave him in an ex-pen but I like to leave him roam free. I am home all day with him and I usually never take my eye off of him and if I cant keep my eye on him I put him in his crate. In the past 2 weeks he has had maybe 3 accidents in the house and I can blame myself for those accidents! This morning he ran to the back door and started crying to go outside and when I took him out he pooped. When he does go to the bathroom outside I give him one of his favorite training treats that he absolutely LOVES!!! He really looks forward to getting those treats when he does have to go to the bathroom he knows he will get one if he goes to the bathroom outside. I have also been useing those treats for training purposes(sit, stay, come and down). He has been doing remarkably well. I have gotten him to stay for 2 minutes without moving and when I do tell him to move he comes right to my feet and sits patiently waiting for his reward. I guess the point of all this rambleing is when you find something they absolutly LOVE use it!!! It really has helped with my little cooper!
