Small victory!

Well, the devil dog can sit!! At least she's learning.

If anyone can...let me know if I'm doing this right!

I started trying to teach Daisy a simple "sit" command a few days ago, using a ball she likes to play with. When I'd get the ball, I'd hold it up (and hold her off) until she sat down, saying "sit!" all the while (usually only took a matter of seconds). As soon as she sat, I'd say "good girl!" and throw the ball.

Well, then she and Jake (the chihuahua) started getting along, and he got into the playing too and distracted her. So today I cut up a hot dog, sat in the kitchen floor and calmed her down. Jake was there too (he won't be for future training sessions with Daisy). I'd get her attention, and tell her to "sit!" And I'd get ignored because she was trying to get the treat. I put her in the sitting position a couple of times, let go, said "Sit!" and if she stayed, fed her the treat with a "good girl!" After a couple of times, and after watching Jake sit like a champ and get treats, she started doing it too.

I stopped after about five minutes, as I've read it's easier to train terriers in short spurts. We'll pick up again later! But yay!

Is it best to teach one thing at a time, or can I throw in some other things, as well? Is there a natural progression of things...like from sit to stay, or sit to lie down, etc?
