Training a dog to potty outside the yard.

Not sure how to explain this.
Basically, my landlord despises my dog because he thinks she's a pit bull. He tried evicting us once and is going to do it again. This time because of a 'smell' (also known as garbage can and inability to water grass) coming from our yard.
Now, he says that we have to be 'responsible' pet owners and take Dandi for a walk so she doesn't go the washroom in the yard (yay killing other peoples grass ). She's killing the grass. I know she is. Because we aren't allowed to water it, plant new grass, cut it, etc. That's his job and he has forbidden us from doing it. He has never watered our grass, has never planted new grass (it's been pretty bad since we moved in) and has stopped cutting it since we got the dog.

The problem is that she has gone to the washroom maybe two or three times on walks since we got her, and that was when we first got her. We've gone on an hour or so walk before and nothing. She's very picky about where she goes. She likes going in the yard and nowhere else. Even getting her to go in the yard is a hassle sometimes.
Is there a way to train her to go elsewhere? I'm not so sure I want to train her to do that honestly, because I prefer her only going in the yard to save me from carrying bags of poop around with me when we're walking. But I don't think I have much choice in the matter.

I have the same problem with my boy, Dexter. He'll only go to the bathroom in the back of our yard. Our property manager doesn't care, but I want Dex to know it's OK to do it elsewhere.

Do you have any dog parks in your area? Or maybe just an area that's high in dog traffic? Maybe she will realize it's OK to go in an area that already smells like doggy business.

I'm taking Dex to a dog park this evening to test this out, hah! Good luck!

I don't think we have any dog parks in the area. We have taken her for walk in a popular place for dogs but still no go. A lot of people there just don't pick up after their dogs so I do pull her away from poop a lot. Could that have made her think it's bad to go outside the yard?

Hm, I don't think that would make her avoid going. How old is she? And do you take her for walks right after meals, or whenever it is she has to go?

When she's in your yard, do you have a leash or harness on her? Maybe she's not used to going to the bathroom while being constrained. If that's the case, I'd try walking her in the yard where she usually goes, with the leash/harness that she wears for walks. Then maybe she'll relate it to going to the bathroom?

I'm not sure, every dog is different. Those are just some ideas off the top of my head... I'm sure someone else on here will have more tips for ya!

She's about nine or ten months old.
Her walk times are pretty varied. She hasn't had a good long walk for about a month because she was in heat and we don't want her to get pregnant or cause problems between other dogs. She usually eats a bit and drinks quite a bit before and during walks.

She's always in a leash right now because she's still being trained and can jump over the gate if she really wanted to. Though she does only have a collar on in the yard. During walks she has a collar, harness and halti (she has a leash on the halti and harness just in case she slips one off.. I'm a little paranoid about losing my puppy). She has gone with the harness on in the yard, but she never has the halti on except for walks. I'll try taking her out for patty with the halti on as well and see how that goes.
