Unhappy Pooping in the house

Ok so my husband and i are trying to sell our house so we're remodeling a bit... well we're pretty much done other the the living room carpet. We're scared to replace it cause my 1yr 8mo Chihuahua (of which we've had since she was 7wks) ALWAYS poops in one certian spot... And she only does it when we're gone or at night...Mind you where she poops is about 3 inches from the tile floor huh... (of whice id perfer her poop on the tile, if shes gonna poop at all in the house) So my husband and i have tried everything..... All differant sorts of sprays, steam cleanin the carpet to supposly get rid of the scent, and last night we bought a plastic thingy that has lil picks on the reverse side (kinda like a office chair mat wit the mat upside down so the picks show) Well we laid it where she usually goes and we woke up to see she just went to the right of it on the carpet. Huh...... im running out of ideas... We tried locking her in the kitchen but she gets out of the gate... No matter what we put in front of it... SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US!!!!! Thanks Samantha

Re: Pooping in the house

I would but the dog in a cage at night and when I go away. But always take the dog out before you fo away or you go to bed. When the dog goes and does his business say good dog. If you train your dog to use the cage it works great. I leave the cage door open through the day and put treats in there so they get use to it.Don't just let the dog out to do his business by himself you must go out with him and praise him when he does.

Re: Pooping in the house

I'd recommend a crate or enclosing in a bathroom. I also agree with the previous post about praising the dog for pooping outside.

We just had an isolated poop accident yesterday (I think we were away from home too long) and I'm thinking that if it happens again, I'll check with the vet just to make sure that there isn't a digestive issue or something. (Yesterday's accident was a little runny.) You might want to check with the vet as well.

Is there any predictable pattern related to feeding times? I think we may switch from feeding morning and night to feeding at night only.
