Obedience classes are the best way to go

Most dogs don't even know there name. I have taken all my dogs to obedience training. Join a good club that has people that compeat with there dogs and take the classes. I do and enjoy it very much.I wish I have done this earlier in life.I love working with dogs.Never seen a dumb dog just dumb people that won't take the time to learn how to work with the dog.If you really want to enjoy your dog this is the way to go. Books are ok but going to obedience classes with a good instructor is the best way to go.I try to find time to work with my dogs every day and twice a day if I can and do most of the time. Its a game with us.Once you go to classes and you finish the complete course and you see a person walking his dog you can tell if he has any training at all.You will just shake your head. It looks like a duck out of water. If I am stepting on any of your toes so be it. Obedience training is the only way to go.

I'm sure the choir agrees.

Yup, you have it right. One thing to add, if you are also wanting to add a little more fun to it, then Rally Obedience is another good choice. It allows for more interaction with the dog, and is a little more lenient. It's a great starting point, and once you master Rally, then you can go towards Obedience itself. But overall, you are right on target.
