Rally Obedience--competing with mixed breed dog??

I've been searching around the internet and I'm finding conflicting information about whether mixed breed dogs can compete for Rally Obedience titles. Does anyone know the answer to this?

Yes, they can. If your dog resembles a purebred and is speutered you can get a PAL (Purebred Alternative Listing) # from the AKC to compete. The APDT invites all mixes to compete.

Here's the info from the AKC site:

To be eligible to compete in AKC Rally trials, a dog must be:
Registered with the AKC or listed with the AKC Purebred Alternative Listing/Indefinite Listing Privilege (PAL/ILP) program, or a Foundation Stock Service (FSS) recorded breed that meets the eligibility requirements for competition.
6 months of age or older.
The Purebred Alternative Listing/Indefinite Listing Privilege (PAL/ILP)

Dogs of any breed recognized by the AKC that do not have registration papers or known parents may qualify for a Purebred Alternative Listing/Indefinite Listing Privilege (PAL/ILP). PAL/ILP dogs may participate in certain AKC events, such as obedience, agility, tracking, rally and many performance events. Photos are required to prove the dog is a registerable breed. The dog must be spayed or neutered. For more information about the PAL/ILP program, visit the PAL/ILP section on the AKC web site, or e-mail questions to PAL@akc.org

Re: Rally Obedience--competing with mixed breed dog??

Thanks for the info and clarification. I guess the AKC and ADPT differences had me confused. I would see in some places on the internet where it said mixed breeds could compete for titles in rally ... and then other places where it said they had to be purebred or get an ILP number. Now I understand the difference between the rules for the two organizations.

I won't be able to get an ILP for Lucy because she is definitely NOT a purebred looking dog. She's a cute Aussie mix, clearly very herding-like, but not a purebred.

Do you have a pic of her? Is she an Australian Shepherd mix? She might have enough of the Aussie in her to consider her.

I'm sure she'd never get an ILP. She definitely looks like she has some Aussie in her, but she's far from looking purebred. But good thinking, though. Thanks.

That mixed breed site looks really interesting. Thanks for posting it.
