Potty training puppy

This week I got my new eight week old APBT puppy and keep him in a crate in the den where my wife and I watch tv.
I bought a book on on potty training and it says that there are three times that I can expect my dog to poop. 1) when it gets up. 2) after heavy play 3) after a meal.
My problem is that my dog never goes after he eats (i have kept records for the last three days) it is generally two to three hours after.
the book said to have him go in the same place. I have waited in the same place for as much as twenty minutes only to have him go when I was walking him back toward the house. my question is, did I buy the wrong book, my puppy is wierd, ir I'm doing somethiing wrong? I'm inclined toward the last but I need help. Thanks

your not alone--my dogs dont poop like that either. they wake up and then pee then play for like 10 mins then they go eat come back and play for like 1 hour or so then they are ready to poop. after they poop they go to sleep.

Try walking for a few minutes then going to that spot. Walking stimulates the bowels.

Sadie does not go poop until hours after eating but she pees right after drinking.

The book should have included 4) every hour. Take them out to go every hour, and give them a chance to go. Easier to prevent accidents than correct!
