| Kisses I've had several dogs in my life but never ran across one that didn't give you a kiss. I just got E (yes, that's his name...LOL) and he will not give me a kiss. He doesn't lick my hand or lick my face. It's like he's never done it before.
Is this possible? LOL, well, yeah I guess it is. But does anyone know why he doesn't give kisses? |

| Re: Kisses Seems so, we have two who would give big WET kisses 24/7 if they were allowed. And yes they're both submissive.
That's what I gather from time on DF anyway. |

| Re: Kisses I don't know about it being dominance. I think we just taste good. That, or they are waiting for us to be ripe enough to savor over a nice BBQ. The ones that don't lick us think we're disgusting.
That said, Ollie gives me a lick on the chin/hand once a day when I arrive home. |

| Re: Kisses Thank you Chrissy for your serious reply.
He is a bit dominant. I posted in a "why do dogs paw" thread also because he does this too.
You think dogs need to be taught to kiss?
He also has a habit of biting on me. Not mean biting, but like a puppy does that's never been taught not to bite.
I'm teaching him not to bite and he's doing good.
He's a pure breed and I got him from a couple who used him to work their goats but they said he was too mouthy for them. |

| Re: Kisses Oooh, RBark, Pooch...your answers are not nearly serious enough for this thread!
You can absolutely teach a dog to kiss. Put some peanut butter on your hand. When the dog goes to lick it off, repeat "Good kisses, good kisses, good kisses!" in your you've-just-won-the-lottery voice. Eventually you should be able to put
Having said that, some dogs just aren't kissy and there's absolutely no advantage to forcing the behavior. Alvin, like Ollie, gives me one kiss every morning, as I am walking out the door to go to work. |

| Re: Kisses He's very pretty. I think you're probably going to have to deal with this tendency his whole life. He looks adult. How old is he?
PS. I'm no dog trainer. There are a lot of people here with more experience than me. Maybe one of them will chip in.
And so you know. I'm not good with serious. That was a really huge effort for me. |

| Re: Kisses I read that dogs lick you as a sign of saying "you're the boss"..so it could be a sign of submissiveness...but also i think its a display of affection...whenever we come home bailey is full and ready to give his kisses..you cannot get your face near him without him tryin to show you some love
but you want to know a funny thing...whenever he does something bad and he sees that i am mad at him, if im sitting down he would come up to me and curl up on my lap and try to give me kisses...as if he is saying im sorry... |

| Re: Kisses If you want him to lick you, get some peanut butter and use that to get 'em started.
My dog licks me. My cat licks me. My dog licks my cats. My cats lick my dog.
I don't lick anyone.....
And I have NO IDEA who is dominant over who.. tho I have a good idea the one not doing any licking here is at the bottom.... |
