New Puppy with Jealous dog

My wife has a Maltese/Shizu {female}that is around 1½ years old. Use to being center of attention. Here comes new Great Dane puppy {male}. 6 weeks old. Very playful together. However as playing continues the older dog gets more aggressive. Now that the great dane is 3 weeks older. He is now larger than the Maltese and when they play it always ends up more aggressive where they get mad at each other. However we don't want the Maltese hurt as the Dane is just a pup and doesn't realize his size. Anyone have any suggestions on to help prevent accidental injury between these two? Thanks

Yes... I don't know where you got a pup at 6 weeks old (that's illegal in some states), so I would start by slapping the previous care giver.

Seriously though, you should minimize rough play, and interrupt normal play often (every 30 seconds to ask the pup for a behavior...like sit). Your pup needs to learn manners, which he should have gained from his littermates. So, get him into puppy school ASAP.

Yes, if I only knew then, what I know now, I would of refused to take the puppy before 8 weeks. We do in interrupt there playing periodically. I'm also going to be taking him through obedience training. Thanks for your advice.
