My son and his wife have gotten a Miniature Pinscher puppy. She was only 7 weeks when they brought her home. They have had for for about 2 months now and she is still very shy of anyone other than my son and DIL. They have taken her out and are trying to socialize her but every time I go over and try to approach her gently, she runs away. She is the same with any other than my son and DIL. I have had dogs all my life but never came across this problem. Anyone have any suggestions or will she just grow out of it as they keep socializing her. She is fine with other dogs...just not people.
Was she a pet store puppy? I've often heard people saying the same thing if they buy their dog in a pet store.
It will just take time and lots of treats! Show her that you are good to be around, always have some tasty bit of something handy. When she does come to you, praise her like crazy.
Thanks, Snowshoe! She was from a breeder. That was my inclination, to have treats and be very quiet and gentle with her. She just shakes when I hold her so I don't force her. We will keep trying anyway. I'm sure she will come around once she gets a bit older and more confidence.
i have a min pin she was shy to when i got her she was 12 weeks old shes 4 now but i got a book and read up on them try when you aproach her get down to her level ( so on yours knees ) and see if that works i dont have to do that with her but every one else does or she gets scared and runs to me but if they get on there knees to greet her at first then shes fine with them

Try going to a group training course, it makes the dogs more social
