Small Poop Issue - Help please...

I have a wonderful Jack Russell puppy, that is 12 weeks old and have a small issue...

Let him outside about every 3 hours and strongly encourage him to pee and poop using postitve commands and re-inforcing language... We also use a "Pavlov word" whenever he pees or poops so that it starts to train him to want to go when he hears it.

After he goes, we really praise him and give him a small dog bone treat... He DOES go potty outside regularly... If we are not outside with him, we allow him to come back in when he comes back to the door...

Sounds good, right?

OK, here is the problem... Even though he goes outside, many times he still poops in the house... Always in the same general area... This happens at least once a day, and sometimes just after we let him out. It is very frustrating...

Any ideas on breaking this?

Thanks all.

Try hanging a bell on the door and teach him to ring it if he needs to go out and that will make it a lot easier for him and you.

Thanks Hanna,

Thanks for the post, but we are new puppy owners... Can you please be a little more specific on how to teach them to ring a bell? lol

I did this with my aussie and it works wonders. All i did was hang a bell (a large jingle bell works great) from the door I want him to go out the most. Make sure he can reach it. Then, EVERY time he goes out the door, whether it's for potty or not, take his nose/foot and ring the bell. Praise and out the door you go. Be forewarned though, there will come a time when he will ring the bell every 5 minutes just to see what happens. Have patience, let him out, don't play or make a big deal of it, and it will go away.
Now, as for the pooping in the house...make sure you clean the area well with an enzyme cleaner. Nature's Miracle is pricey but it works really well. Does he go certain times during the day in that spot? Is there a way to keep him from getting to that spot during training?
