Dog ramps

I have a lifted truck. I was going to get a 7' ramp for my dog so he can get in the back. I've tried temp ramps to see if he'd even use it. He won't.
What's the best way to train him to use it?

Re: Dog ramps

Lay a trail of reallly good treats all the way up the ramp and let him take his sweet time in going up...build the confidence. Do the same thing for going down..often, that is even trickier for some dogs. Don't let him jump down. The shock will tear him up very quickly.

Re: Dog ramps

I trained my old lab with treats. It took about 3 minutes.

(A lab will jump through fire for a treat.)

Even after he became accustomed to the ramp he would sometimes just jump into the back of the van (ignoring the ramp) to show me he could.
