help with playtime

Having a few probs with playtime .We have 2 dogs a 3 month old Mini Schnauzer and a 1yr 3 month old Beagle. The prob is the Beagle never seems to stop playing.Playing starts off fine mouthing and a lil play tug with rope toy then it goes to running thru the hose with a chase game. The running is mostly the prob.I am working with the Schnauzer in recalling and saying please. Both are doing ok.I dont try to recall her when they are playing as i dont want my voice to become ignored. Also was thinking of putting the Schnauzer in a training class. The only one that i know of in my area is at PetsMart.Although i havent really looked that much in my area yet for one.any help would be great.

For a training class, I would contact members of the APDT. There may be a few offering puppy classes in your area.

Re: help with playtime

You're missing out on an opportunity to strenghten your recalls. Calling them to you during play, praising/treating them for coming and then releasing them to go play again is a huge, huge reward. It also teaches them that come means just that.....under any circumstances.

Sounds like the Beagle could use more exercise outside of playtime. Do the dogs get a nice long walk every day? Could Beagle go to training class, too?

Re: help with playtime

My brother has not kept up on the walks with the Beagle. He says that he will get back into a routine again with her(yes she is spayed). The Schnauzer gets a walk every day. The distance of the walk depends on her.If my brother does not keep up with the walks i will.Just i know it will make the Beagle more happy and calm her down a bit.Yes i will use the playtime for good recall training now.It sounds like a great idea now. Both dogs are very smart and love to be worked with.
