Red face Begging/barking

Jazz is a HUGE begger. I eat in my room since we have no table so it's very difficult for me to eat somewhere she won't be able to get to. I do not have a crate yet. I do want to get one though. I don't have car though so it's very difficult for me to get places. Anyways, I have tried putting her on my bed away from where I am eating and saying "Jazzmine STAY", firmly, but not in a mean tone. While I'm eating she just will inch forward while I try to put her back in place again with the same command.

What am I doing wrong here? Is she just testing me? I know I don't expect her to listen to everything I am saying-afterall she's just been thrown into a new environment and is probably still trying to gain her bearings.

I also have an issue with her barking at my mom. She doesn't bark when she hears my brother in laws voice, or my brothers, but whenever my mom walks around the house or into my room she always barks. She doesn't have this problem really with anyone else. What can I do to get her used to my mom?

Any suggestions on these two issues would be appreciated.

Thank you!
-Jade

If she will stay, make her stay in a place off the bed. If she has a pad or bed of her own, that would be the best place to make her stay.

This is what we do with Abs if she is cruising around under the dinner table. She is made to go to her spot and stay until we are finished and then she gets to have her own dinner.

Sorry, can't help with the barking...someone else will cover that for ya.

Yep, teaching her to go to her place and lie down is good whether or not you have a crate. As far as getting a crate, go on line to PetEdge. You can order one from them and their prices are very reasonable.

As far as the barking at your mom, how do you correct her when she does this? And, have your mom take over as much of her care as possible for awhile so that your pup starts to associate her with good things like food and play.
