| questions about my ghandi dog...pls help! I have another question for you all, since you seemed to be very helpful with my pup's humping problem.
As I said in the last post - he's a golden retriever/newfoundland 2 year old - 115lbs. He's excellent on a leash, sits when told, fetches like crazy - all in all, he's a great dog.
a little background. I got him 6 months ago from a rescue (poor katrina pup) so some of his behavior background is unknown to me.
One thing I do know is that generally, he listens and obeys and is happy to do so. But there are some times that he just doesn't. And he pulls a "ghandi" on us. It's pretty funny, but at the same time, it's a little irritating.
If you're trying to put him in another room (like while vacuuming, b/c it scares him and he either barks the entire time or he attacks it! hahaha) - you'll try to call him in the other room and usually he never leaves my side, but he knows you're going to shut him in b/c the vacuum is out - he'll just lay down and look away and won't get up for anything. I've found that getting a tennis ball out will get him to do anything I want, but I'd rather him not ignore me. Any tips?
In general, I never lock him in another room. It's only during cleaning time with the vacuum, or currently, my boyfriend and I are doing some bathroom reconstruction - so for safety reasons, we lock them OUT of the bedroom/bathroom we're working on. That's it. So it's not like something we do all the time - just occasionally. Our other dog, a bassett hound, doesn't care. But poor Tag (the big one) - he just doesn't get it.
Also, sometimes at bedtime, if I go to bed early and my boyfriend later, the dogs get into bed with me and we sleep until he gets there. More often than not, when my boyfriend gets into bed, or tries to, Tag won't move and I have to pull him to the side of the bed and help him off. He knows he's supposed to get off the bed but he just won't.
Generally now - he's allowed on the bed for some random playtime during the day and in the mornings for some cuddle time, but at bedtime, he sleeps on the floor. The bassett still sleeps in the bed - is this bad?
Thanks.
