Barking while in crate...

Ok so as of now i live in a house with no really close neighbors so this isn't really an issue. In the spring though my fiance and I are planning to move and we will most likely be moving into an apartment so this is an issue i want to adress now before we move. I lost my job due to an injury about a month after we got our Beagle so he hasn't been fully crate trained i guess, he sleeps in there no issues but if you put him in there during the day he barks like crazy, and i've waited around to see if he would stop after a few mins but he doesn't he just barks and bays like crazy. I'm worried that once we move into an apartment people will complain. Any advice on how to help him not bark while in his crate, i think its seperation anxiety because if i'm in the room and he can see me he doesn't bark. Thanks for any advice.

Jason

Try rewarding him when he is quiet. My neighbors have 2 Beagles and I do believe it is a breed that just needs to "speak" so this may be a challenge but rewarding his silence is a start.

ya i know bealges like to speak but he isn't too much of a barker otherwise so i really think its just a speration thing. Its hard to reward him when he's quite because if i'm in the room he's fine. If i leave he gets noisy i guess mabye wait until he is quite and go in and treat him?? even if it takes 10-20 mins.

yeah i would say walk out of the room and if he starts barking wait until he stops, when he does come and reward him with a treat as well as verbally. just keep repeating the process, and gradually let the speration times be a little longer than last time. and with my dog holley, if i come home and he barks before i have time to go in the other room and let her out, she has to wait until she does not bark, then i reward her and let her out. it make take some time and patience but it will be work it in the long run, good luck!
