Training dog to sit in lap peacefully

Before I enrolled Snoopy into obedience class he used to love sitting in my lap and giving me kisses. He would sit in my lap for however long I kept him there and he never had a problem. He would even try to jump back up when I put him down. But after every obedience class they would have a puppy play group with my dog and another puppy, they combined the puppy group with the adult group, and for the first couple of classes Snoopy seemed to enjoy getting chased but then he didn't. Now its to the point that if I'm not handing Snoopy treats one after the other that he will start growling and occasionally barking and would want down. At which point I will wait till he stops to get a breath and then I put him down so he doesn't associate growling and barking with getting what he wants. Is what I'm doing the right thing to do to get him to start liking being sat in people's laps again? Like I said, he wasn't always like that so I would think that this can be fixed as I think it may be a fear behavior as to what the puppy did to him. I have a couple of vids to show you how the puppy play sessions went.

Isn't your trainer there? What does she say about this?

Re: Training dog to sit in lap peacefully

Classes ended 2 to 3 weeks ago. I just emailed the behavior manager and asked her what she thought. Do you think this could also have been started when my mom cuddled him, held him tight to her chest and lightly squeezed? As I could tell he didn't like this and would make her stop but she continued to do it no matter how many times I told her not to. She only stopped doing it now because he has started barking at her real loud when she does it.

I hesitate to say this because it sounds like I'm saying "give up," but maybe he's just outgrown being hugged. Some dogs are huggy cuddlers and some are not. Maybe Snoopy is not?

He can out grow it that fast, I would have thought he'd be at least a year old before he'd outgrow a puppy thing? But don't you think its odd that he suddenly outgrew it after getting pounced on at class? Also I'm not hugging him, just sitting him in my lap.
