Question Sonic gadgets for barking?

I've seen some gadgets here and there of different kinds for barking dogs. Usually some kind of ultrasonic device that emits a high frequency noise that only dogs can hear if they bark. The advantage being that they don't have to wear a collar or anything and you don't have to do any correction, it does it for you.

Do these actually work?

Re: Sonic gadgets for barking?

Remember that just because you can't hear it, doesn't mean it isn't loud. The ones I've seen never have a decibel rating and frankly, I'd be worried about damaging my dog's hearing if they're THAT loud. Additionally? If a NORMAL noise (ie, a verbal correction) doesn't shut them up, why would a loud noise that you can't hear- unless it's really loud?

If you're unable to train barking out of your dog, I believe the "Gentle Spray" bark collar (which uses a citronella spray) is the only bark-collar product that has had any scientific testing done on it's effectiveness.
