Thumbs up Next step on barking in morning With new crate idea from old thread

Hi this is a sort of follow on from

http://www.dogforums.com/3-dog-train...t-soiling.html (Never had this sort of Soiling and peeing problem, any help?)

Now I did the crate, well fence around the bed idea and she is doing great I thank the people for the help I wouldnt have thought of that.

BUT I have 2 questions as the crate idea is new to me and I am now woundering:

1. I know she has a while yet before I let her walk free around the house down stars at night, but how do I know when I can do this? and what would be the next steps in starting it when ready?

2. This one is for now really, as she doesnt poo or wee in her bed at night she starts to bark at around 6am as she needs to do her biz, so I come down let her out and praze her, but then she goes back in bed and when i go back up to bed she still barks as if she just wants me to stay up. what can I do about both of these, with the needing the loo isnt that bad but she wants me to stay down then and thats bad

Hope some one can shed more light on these as they are both new cos I have never done crate training

Thanks

After you put her back into the bed and she starts barking you just have to ignore the behavior or shssh it. Many puppies do this, as a matter of fact mine still wakes me up because for some odd reason he wants to play at 7 in the morning. Or he's hungry. But it doesn't bother me anymore. I've just adapted to waking up at that time.

I can't help you with that one. My pup wakes around 7 and wants to go out. After I take him out I try to go back to sleep and he just barks at me! I have not found a solution to this other than get up! During the week it is not a big deal but it sure is annoying on the weekend. Lately on the weekends I have been taking him and then feeding him and then eventually about an hour later he will go back to sleep and let me sleep.

this doesnt sound good, I didnt relise crate training can make this as a problem, all my other dogs have never been crate trained and dont bark to get you up, the other dogs have always waited for us to get up to go out.

There must be a way to sort this as it wakes up my son

Re: Next step on barking in morning With new crate idea from old thread

she'll figure it out, right now she just knows that "if i bark, mommy comes and lets me out and praises me" so she's expecting you to come out and interact with her every time she demands it.

if it were me, no more praising for barking. this can create a problem barker anyway. set your alarm to wake up at 5 or 5:30, earlier than she starts her thing. let her out, put her back in her crate, and ignore her until you're ready to get up. better to have a few nights of her barking than a lifetime of it.

Another thing you can try is do do some physical activity before bed, to try and get her to poo before she goes to bed. I do this with my dog, and she is fine all night, and waits for me to wake up to go out and play.

She does a poo and a wee before bed

OK i tried the getting up last night and it didnt make any difference, I think it could have something to do with with her feed, as I normly get up and feed my son then her about 1/2 hour maybe a little more after we get up. Could she be trying this on?

As I thought she might this morning I left her feed to later by taking my son to play group first then feeding her, so that the routeen changed as I dont really want a standerd routeen so that she doesnt miver for food.

any more thoughts on this?

Re: Next step on barking in morning With new crate idea from old thread

I have a 10 week old pup, he goes into his crate totally fine at night time, we get up around 5 as he has normally soiled his crate. He goes back in totally fine but bang on 7 he is barking like mad to get out of the crate. I used to get up thinking he may have soiled his crate again but when i came down it was clean. It just seems at 7am thats his sleep over and done with and he is up for the day. The same way a child would be really. I now get up and let my 2 dogs out at 7 and go back to bed and get up around 9am (as we are on half term from school here) and its been great. I dont think there is a way to solve this I am just hoping as he ages he will just wait for us. I have a 2 year old cocker and a pure delight since he was 7 weeks old and he will just stay in his crate until we are ready to get up. The pup has been a shock to my system but putting the dogs outside for a couple of hours till I am ready to get up has worked for me, plus the 2 dogs come back in and are so tired from being outside and just sleep for another couple of hours which is very frustrating!!!!

Re: Next step on barking in morning With new crate idea from old thread

My bloodhound has started to do this also, 2 nights in a row. We keep her crate by our bed & the best advice for you is to just ignore her. If you don't have her crate by your bed I would suggest putting it by your bed so that way she can see you roll over & not give her ANY attention (not even saying a word to her) If it persist for hours maybe roll over & just say "NO" most of all dogs know that word . If you just let her out of her crate that means SHE wins. If you must take her out wait until she's done being vocal. If you keep her down stairs & your going upstairs, as far as she knows your awake & up. Last night for our 3rd night our bloodhound didn't wake up at all, but we did give her a good play time before bed. By the way we do get up with ours at 6am but anything earlier we don't give in to her. I'll keep you updated on how our progress is going. Hope that works for ya!!!

Re: Next step on barking in morning With new crate idea from old thread

are you letting her sleep all day during the day? i let my min pin have little naps when he was a puppy but for the most part i kept him awake most of the day, otherwise he'd wake us up at bedtime wanting to play and go outside.
