Hello. I use very large litterboxes for my servals. They are about the size of a large storage container, but the height is cut down a few inches. Something a little smaller than that would probably work for your dog to use. There are companies who sell various sizes of litter boxes for dogs.

As for litter, you can use newpaper that is shredded, wee-wee pads that puppies use (especially to start off with if your dog is still a puppy) or dog/cat litter that clumps, but, dogs do not bury their waste the same way cats do, so you have to keep that in mind. If you use the cat litter, keep an eye out to make sure your dog isn't ingesting it. If it starts to, I'd just switch to a different filler. Good luck!

malteseluvr,

I am not sure what your living situation is, but I would suggest crate training. Is a litter box something you are going to want to deal with for the life of your dog?

IMO it is just as easy if not easier to train a dog to go outside.

Just something to consider,

I definatley would want my dog to go outside... do you want to smell urine and fecal matter ?

Im sorry but even with cats that bury their stuff it still smells. Even while they are going, I rather just let the dogs outside.

Purina makes litter boxes for dogs. They are the size for the weight of the dog. I just bought one at PetCo, so I would think any pet store would have them.

Re: ???? How would i set up a puppy litter box ????

I made one for my dogs and they will use it if I am gone for a long period of time. I made it with some 1x4 layed flat and screwed together.and vinyl shower pan.(I'm a plumber/electrician)I made it so half of a newspaper will fit down into the 1x4's. This was to help prevent them from pulling up the paper and tearing it up.(it didn't quite work, they still peal it out and tear it up ocassionally) The vinyl shower pan prevents any urine or dew from getting thru the paper into the floor. You can take it outside if it starts to smell and hose it off with the hose and let it dry in the sun. It would cost about $20.00 to build.I had the stuff laying around,David
