I got off on my horror story I forgot…
I had a dog that would not go in front of others. He was so funny. If he caught you watching him, he would stop going to the bathroom. What we did was tie him outside (he was a runner) until he was done. Sometimes were longer then others. But we also had a little bit of acreage to do this on. (we couldn’t leave him outside alone, because he always escaped and ran to the horse ranch next door, which they didn’t appreciate.) anyways, we would have to put him on his tie and then go back in the house before he would go.

Just walking in her house, it like hitting a brick wall... its so discussing, I can’t go over there. And even though she got very angry when I mentioned this, it has caused her and my grandfather A LOT of health problems. They were pretty healthy for their age until they got the puppies, since they've been put on 10 medications for various things. I know the dogs couldn’t have caused all their ailments but there was a HUGE change in their health. But now the dogs WILL NOT go to the bathroom outside. They’re about 3 years now and it’s horrible. My grandparents went out of town for 3 weeks and I watched the dogs for them. I tried everything I could to get them to start potting out side, but they refused. I even left them out for an entire night and day (please don’t tell my grandparents I did that) and the second they came back in it was like a mine field. Every room had some kind of pile. I figured they couldn’t hold it that long and eventually would go outside but they wouldn’t. Then my sister stayed a month at their house, she came home because she was getting flu like symptoms and ended up hospitalized for 3 days. I have no doubt that it was from staying in a house where the dogs are allowed free potty where ever they please. I’m probably making it sound worse than it is, but they have to have their carpet and padding replaced every year. I’m really sorry for the story, but I feel really strongly about this.
wow, what a disaster, you're scarying me...haha. I know it's not a laughing matter, but wow, I'm sorry your grandparents are going through some rough times. how big are their dogs? my pup will only grow to a lil bit over 8lbs or so. his poop are so teeny tiny. however, he is starting to eliminate everywhere ever since I gave him a lil bit more free time out of the crate. it's my own fault. my schedule for him has been very inconsistent. I've been so busy lately! no excuse.

I shall try the 5-10 allowable time to eliminate then crate. I've been trying that with his food. if he doesn't eat in 1 minute, I take it away. I could try to wake up extra early in the morning to take him outside and then take him again in the evening but what can I do about the afternoon? I know for sure my sister, who works at home, will not take him outside in the afternoon. the gap between morning and evening is so long. would it really mess him up trying to get him to go outside morning and evening, and inside in the afternoon?

We give a treat to Lilly when she went in the yard and said good girl. Soon we could eliminate the treat and just say good girl. When they are actively peeing or pooping we repeat gently "go potty" or "go poo-poo" and now, a couple months later, you can say it and she will try her hardest to go but of course only if she has to. If she just pooped an hour ago obviously she will not do it again. its good for us when its raining or really cold b/c it gets her to concentrate on the business at hand.

hello everyone, I'd just like to report that Scraps has been eliminating successfully outside. he no longer eliminates inside. no more pee pads! no more smell of pee and poo in my bathroom! I don't mind taking the walks with him. he's getting plenty of exercise and quality time with me meanwhile. thanks to all for your advices and stories. happy halloween!!
