Question Westie - happy to see you-pee

my westie is a year old. she is my 3rd. westie, but the first female
she is very hi-strung, and everytime she starts to get attention she pees, wherever she is. consequently, i don't let her in to play with us very much, not just because of the peeing, but because she runs around like a maniac !
but i lover her still. she is definitely a junk yard dog, digging and collecting whatever she can find is her hobby !

First, make sure she's healthy. No UTI or bladder infection. Otherwise, she's young and she's doing the submissive piddle. She's still a puppy and she will outgrow this but you need to help her along here.

You're post wasn't very clear on a few things and you might need to provide further information, but based on what you wrote...

If you don't let her in (what do you mean by that? Is she kept outside?) you are contributing to the problem by NOT letting her in. She isn't going to change her behavior is she's not allowed to interact and get attention. She'll never calm down if you withhold your attention from her.

What do you mean she's a junk yard dog? If she's kept outside and doing these things, it's because she's bored and needs your time and attention.

When she does do the submissive pee, you must ignore it completely. Just clean it up and be quiet. If you make a big deal over it, you're creating a lifetime problem.

Don't know if this helps at all.

^^I agree completely with renoman..

My puppy had the same problem. When I first got home especially. She got very very excited and would 'piddle' regularly. I started basically ignoring her when I first got home, maybe a pat on the head and that was it. If she had an accident I didnt scold her, when a dog is a submissive urinator they will often pee more when they are scolded. My dog was also a submissive urinator because she lacked confidence. I took her to obedience classes and this greatly helped her confidence.. Before long the problem was gone and she hasnt done it since.
