| Golden Retriever Puppy Problems My golden retriever is about 4months old and she is a great dog. Once a night, usually around 11pm, she will just go on a rampage. Running around the house 2 times, nothing can stop her, running full speed, and then she'll jump on the couch. We try to catch her and scold her, but she'll just get right up and start running around again. Any idea whats going on? |

| Re: Golden Retriever Puppy Problems I don't think it’s anything to be worried about. My dog Dakota has moments where she gets little spurts of energy and tears around the house.
Honestly, I never thought it was something worth scolding. |

| Re: Golden Retriever Puppy Problems I love when my pets get the zoomies. It's better than anything on tv.
Beavis does huge figure eights: around the kitchen table, through the family room, then around the coffee table in the living room, back through the family room, back around the kitchen table, etc. Usually at some point, he swoops up a toy and carries it for a few laps, then stops to thrash around the toy a little, eventually rolling around on his back trying to pull the toy out of his mouth with his little stubby arms.
I just attributed it to "sudden bursts of energy that must be expended right now." My cats do it, too. One of our old family cats used to tear around the house and jump five or six feet straight up onto the hallway wall, sometimes on the door frame to the bathroom, then slide down the wall. You could hear her claws scratching all the way down. Luckily, that wall wasn't wallpapered. |

| Re: Golden Retriever Puppy Problems It is called "butt-tucking" Marley does it around the backyard, because I tell him "No, butt-tucking in the house." Quote: |
"Butt-tucking" (not limited to Labs) is when your pup suddenly starts running in circles at top speed with his rear tucked under him. Most Labradors do this. It does not indicate a problem with your Lab, either with its temperament or its joints. However, you will want to keep a sharp eye out that you are not injured during this free-for-all!

| Re: Golden Retriever Puppy Problems LOL, and I thought it was just something my dog did. My Boxer/Lab mix does it about every other night. I love to watch him do it. I normally end up laughing so hard that I cry. I just figure it was do to thefact that he really can't run outside (we don't have a fenced in back yard nor is there a safe area for him to do so) so he runs inside. I love it since when he is done, he's so tired that he is ready for bed
I wouldn't scold her for doing the "butt-tucking" but jumping on the couch maybe. |

| Re: Golden Retriever Puppy Problems This is very normal for dogs especially pups. Around here we call it "Mad Dog". Each breed seems to have a differnt name for it. It is really funny to watch a Corgi do it. Then add in a Golden at the same time. Now that can get interesting. I have never tried to change this behavior as it is just something they do and as long as there is no damage being done and I have yet to have any I just let them go. I find that it is done right befor they know they are going to be cooped for a long time. Heck even my horses do it right before they come it at times. Really hate that as I then have to waigt to feed them.

| Re: Golden Retriever Puppy Problems If it is in the middle of the night and it disturbs you, maybe you could put the pup in a crate. |

My family had 2 corgis when I was growing up...they'd start off with one in the lead, and after a couple laps around the house whoever was leading would stop, they'd turn around, and do a couple laps in the other direction.
We called it "getting the giggles." I think the breeder we got them from passed on that phrase, but it always seemed appropriate since we'd laugh ourselves silly every time the dogs did it.

| Re: Golden Retriever Puppy Problems For goldens, we usually call it FRAPS or better yet, the zoomies!!
Zoe picks up something in her mouth (usually a toy or my slipper), and just goes goes goes until she's ready for bed! |
