| I am puzzled by This Hi, I have a 7 month old Shihtzu, his name is Brownie. We adopted Brownie from a Breeder when he was 8 Weeks.Things have been going good exept for this 1 problem and maybe someone can shed some light on.Brownie will go outside to Pee & Poop he does not ask to go out but when we take him out he will go outside. The problem is when he goes in the Family room he Pees in there all the time and it does not matter if he just peed outside he will still go in the family room. And it is hard to catch him the vet says dont let him in there but that is where we spend most of our time.It has a green carpet in this room so we are not sure if this has anything to do with it.The other thing is he is alone 6 hours out of the day we put him in the laundry room and he does not pee at all till we come home. I n the night he sleeps in our bedroom and he holds it all night. Anyone have any Ideas on this that can help?
Thanks Jamie, Meeta & Brownie |

| Re: I am puzzled by This Perhaps the previous owner of the home had a dog and accidents weren't properly cleaned. Or perhaps your family had a dog before that had accidents in that room and they weren't properly cleaned. I would try throughly cleaning the floor with an enzymatic shampoo and see if that helps. I believe it's more a scent proplem and not a coincidental color problem. |

| Re: I am puzzled by This I would try to clean the carpet like CP said. If that doesn't work I would just gate off the room until the dog is trained for the rest of the house and slowly introduce the dog back into that room while watching. |

| Re: I am puzzled by This I have a dog that for some reason peed in my livingroom. No reason or explaination. Carpet was new, and i used that enzyme cleaner when he did go. He went nowhere else in the house. I kept him out of the room, but if he got there by accident he went. I had to remove the carpet for other reasons and he goes in there now with no problems. The livingroom and bedroom carpet were exactly the same and he never peed in there. To this day i have no idea why he did that and none of my other dogs ever did it at all. |

| Re: I am puzzled by This It's not the color. Dogs are red/green color blind kind of like my DH. Riley has a spot in our master bath that he will pee in if given the chance. I'm not too worried about it because we're planning on ripping it out anyway but I figure the previous owner's dog must have done it there and the smell is past getting out. |

| Re: I am puzzled by This Thanks for all your help we have decided to take the carpet out. The other thing that is he is starting to do is chew on wood moulding, as well as bite our hands and feet. he will get one of his toys when he wants to play and nip at your ankle till u play with him, we yelp when he bites but it does not stop him any ideas, the other dogs we have had we adoped when they were older so this is our first puupy so we are learning. |

| Re: I am puzzled by This Get some bitter apple to spray on the moulding. When Riley would nip we would yelp and turn around to ignore him - at first we would actually leave the room. Then all we had to do is stand up (if we were sitting ) and turn our backs on him. He hates being ignored. You also need to give him more exercise. We started biking Riley, something I didn't think little dogs could do, but he loves it. |
