She's killing my grass!!

Greetings one and all!

I have a Boxer mix spayed female and her unine is killing my lawn. I don't want to use diet supplements. The dog's home is backyard which consists of lawn, a pool, and a bark play area for the kids.

I tried tieing the dog up but she seemed to wait until I untied her and then urninated in the grass. I bought the innotek SD-2000 but there are problems. When I train the dog, I'm supposed to keep the dog away from the grass(when not training) so as not to confuse the dog. The only way I can do that is to tie the dog up.

And then, when the dog is trained, it is only supposed to wear the collar for 12 hours a day. Again, they suggested to tie her up when she is not wearing the collar. Well, If I have to tie the dog up all of these times, it seems to me I'd be better off pocketing the 130 bucks I spent on the dog containment system and just tie her up all the time.

Not to mention, when one goes on vacation and only has someone come and check on and feed the dog once a day. Am I supposed to leave the dog collar off or on?

I have even thought of putting some temporary construction fencing around the grass but I can almost garantee that as soon as I take the fencing down, she'll start peeing in the grass again

Thank you for any suggestions you might have

Dilute it. It's not so much the peeing on the grass that kills it, its the amount in one area, and most people will agree, that female dogs seem to kill grass worse than males that lift their legs (the urine is more spread out).

I had issues with this with my two, and the only for sure way to really prevent it, is to follow them out with a bucket of water, and pour it over the fresh pee spot. You only really need to worry about it for their "big" pee when they first go out, any squirts and such after aren't so much of a big deal. It can be a pain, but trust me, it works.

Tying a dog up for long periods is not a good idea. This can cause aggression issues. I use a product called 'Dog Rocks' that you put in their water & change every 2 months. It works if you remember to change the rocks regularly.
Where else is your dog to toilet if not on the grass? Dogs toilet on grass.

How about using the fencing permanently? Fence off a small area of lawn for the dog to pee in, escort her from the back door to this area on leash, and only let her off the leash when she arrives in this spot. I suppose this sort of translates to a dog run. If you can build a run outside a kitchen door or something, then you can skip the leash step and just let the dog out in her own little place for a bit while she goes.

Or do it backwards and fence off the entire lawn, except for a small spot which the dog is allowed to use.

Dog hair clogging the vacuum, wet-nose prints on the car windows, a small pool of slobbery water around the dishes, pee stains...comes with the territory! Your lawn will never be the same again ;-)

My back yard looks like hell not b/c of pee killing the grass but b/c I will not use any chemicals to make it look as beautiful as my front lawn. It goes with the territory in most cases.

I have heard from many people when I first got Lilly to train her to eliminate in one area. I never required this...she is 6 pounds so her tablespoon of pee and little tootie roll poop are really non exsistent. But in your case train her just like when you trained her to learn to use the backyard. Pick an area, take her on leash, give reward, let her pee there and give reward. ETc, etc...

I don't see this happening at our house.

I let Esther out for the first time about 4:30. It's pretty dark out, I'm in my pajamas and my eyes are still mostly shut. I open the back door, she disappears in the darkness for 30-90 seconds and then hurries back for breakfast - at which time I'd better have the door open.

An hour later, we're both outside, but the big pee has already happened.

The Big Pee. A fantastic title for a dog film.
