well we went to dog bach with him and my sisters friend. We first tryed to throw a ennis ball in the water and have him chase it. That did not work. We all ran and jumped in the water then he will go in but stay where he can reach. we tryed to get him in the water for about 1 hour and could nto get him to where he swam. he went in but only where he could not touch.

I believe are doing everything right. That's the way I have been told to teach my dogs to swim.

It worked with my Border Collie. No luck with my yorkies.

Well it might sound mean but my parents took their lab out on the boat at the lake and she used to like to stand up on the front of the boat while my dad would slowly troll along but she wouldn't get in the water so one day may dad just made a sudden turn to purposly cause her to loose her footing and fall in.

That way my dad said she would attribute it to falling rather than him forcing her in. She loves the water everday since.

Boxers I have owned and dealt with have all been the same ~ very wary of water , My Boxer was the same but I was lucky enough to have a hydra-therapy pool at my training class and I eased him into it with toys each session very slowly. I remember him as a pup being a real problems to even walk over a puddle

This is what we are doing to get our 3.5 month old puppy to swim.

We take her to the beach when almost no one is there so it was nice and quiet. With her on her leash I walked her up and down the beach until she was finally walking in water.. We walked a little deeper and deeper very slowly for about 10 minutes until eventually she could just barely touch. We stayed there for while with her. Then I took a step out where I knew it would be just over her head and she tried to walk to me got a little paniced at first but she just starting swimming a bit and she swam back to where she could reach.. Then we would call her to us after a minute or two (giving her time to forget) and we repeated that for about 20 minutes.

Eventually she just swam up and down the beach, with me right next to her. We haven't been in deep water yet but she knows now she is close to the edge so she isn't nervous about it anymore. Eventually, I will lead her out a little farther and farther as she gets more comfortable.

Hopefully that helps.
