Seperation anxiety?

Hello everyone I am somewhat new here. I have 2 black lab mix girls. Amy is our newest edition( 3 weeks ago) approx. 2yrs old and 60 lbs. Megan we have had since she was 8 wks old and she is now almost 3 and 111 lbs. Our problem is that Megan HATES when we leave her. I do have to say she is MUCH better since getting her a sister but she cries even if we go out in front of th house and don't let her out. She hops our 5ft privacy fence like a deer to be with us when we are outside and AMy will dig her way out to be with us too. How do I fix this?? Is it possible to fix it? Have we done this to them? MAile

Yes, it does sound like separation anxiety. Actually I responded to a similar case in another thread here. Have one of you stay while one leaves for a short period of time. Praise when you return, then switch and do the same with the other of the two of you. THen both of you leave and come back in only a few minutes. Praise praise praise. You can slowly increase the timing you leave. If your dogs are jumping the fence, perhaps crate training will help them to stay where they should so they aren't running out onto the street after you?

Thank you for the reply Megan was crate trained for the first 2 years of her life. We live in somewhat of the country and we have trained her to stay on our property so we wanted her to have freedom and not be a craated dog. She is great with every other kind of training we have done and is a great girl! We camp with her, she is a total "boat" dog and other than this problem I cannot complain. The crate thing? We only kept her in it when needed. She learned that if we were leaving, she would go into and wait until we closed it when we left and she was fine. One day we kept finding her outside of it with it still latched and to this day cannot figure out how she did it. She finally one day literally busted out the door of it and we never used it again besides it being her "bedroom". We can tell her "go to your room" and she goes right and lays down. We even just took the whole front of it off and it is now a crate-dog house She even figured out how to unlatch the door at the vet when we board her and let herself out. She is completely un-containable!! Like I said before, she is getting soooo much better with this and I' know we'll get through it, but is it something we may have caused??
