Question Which walking technique?

I was wondering what better, loose leash walking or the heel type walk where the dog is always behind and on your left knee you to show his/her rank, you being the "pack leader".My feeling is as long as the dog is not pulling and stops when you commmand without a yank it is ok.

Re: Which walking technique?

In both of those situations, the leash should normally be loose. I much prefer to have my dogs (I walk two at once) close at my side, rather than doing their thing with a 6-foot radius to work with. If we stop for a break, they can wander to the end of the leash, but when we're walking it's at a good clip with them right next to me.

Teach your dog to walk socially i.e at the end of the lead and at HEEL both have their place example whilst in pedestrian traffic or whilst crossing roads walk your dog at HEEL at other times let your dog be a dog and social walk him/her.
