| Please help me, my dog attacks! My current dog is 8 years old and is a mix of a Corgi and German Shepherd. He's short like a Corgi, but has the coloring of a German Shepherd.
The dog has never ripped anything to shreds in my house, never gone through the trash, taken shoes or done anything like that.
However, my dog is highly unpredictable. I am at my wits end. I love my dog, but I need help. 90% of the time, my dog is friendly, he follows my mother and I around my house. We also sometimes have a lady who cleans come over and besides the dog jumping on her (in a friendly way) when she arrives. he spends the rest of the time following her around and he seems to love her.
Now, the problem is my dog will sometimes go from as sweet as can be to attacking me. He will come up to me and cuddle and if I make any move or anything, he will attack. He has bitten me in the face. Tonight, my mom was laying in her bed and I was talking to her, the dog came up onto the bed and bent his front legs and put his head near my moms to cuddle with her.. it lasted a few minutes, but then she moved her head and he attacked her and she started bleeding slightly from her chin. A few minutes later the dog is looking up at my mom and wagging his tail. It's like he doesn't understand that he just attacked her.
Another time a couple of weeks ago, my dog was laying by the couch and I saw him there and stepped WAY over him and was on the couch a few seconds when I saw him get up really quick and attack my feet.
This is not a dog who is vicious in the fact that he growls or gives ANY prior warning. He just goes from very sweet to mean. I have been told that Corgi's are sometimes unpredictable, but this is crazy. I know German Shepherds are kind of attack dogs.
I wouldn't even call my dog aggressive because he has been to dog training and he will just sit there, right next to other dogs and people and not bark or anything. He is not like the dogs I see on TV that seem completely uncontrollable. I can take my dog to pet stores and I even took him to a Dog Beach. When a Pug came up to him, my dog just walked away.
My dog does go crazy at the vets office though, they have a hard time putting a muzzle on him and on his chart, they have a 'caution' sticker.
I don't want to put my dog to sleep, but I don't know what kind of training will work when the dog doesn't give ANY warning before attacking.
I am trying to do whatever I can. I am scared to death he will get worse. I am not trying to make excusing saying he's a good dog, but I know there has to be something that could help him.
What can I do so I don't have to put him down?
