Trainer lost Luther and I have to pay

Hi I posted almost 2 months about a bout a nerotic bassett hound. I finally took him to a licenced dog trainer and he got away from her in under .45 seconds, this was 9 days ago. Today he was hit by a car *road burn but nothing broken no bleeding* and I'm getting charged with almost a grand in fines and fees. What resposibilities does the trainer have to the fees; if any? I'm in the dark about what I should do *I'm still freaking out sorry if I'm not making any sence*

any info woudl be appreated

The trainer LOST the dog and is responsible for it's loss and any resulting injuries. Personally I'd take the trainer to court, I believe this would be considered small claims.

Agreed.
I hope everything is okay! I hope that you are given the funding for the bills, that your babe recovers quickly and that you can find a trainer who will truly work with him!

I agree, if your dog was in the trainer's control when this happened, the trainer should be responsible. However.... check your contract with the trainer. Did you drop your dog off for a specified training period? There may be some 'fine print' in there that falls into place.

The trainer should be insured to cover accidents like this.

Yes, most reputable trainers would have the insurance coverage for incidents like this.

I agree..
I carry liability insurance just in case for training. He should have the same. Ane whether he does or not, it sounds like to me your fines, and the dogs vet bill as well.

What did the trainer say after this happened? I think it was a good thing for you to share this on here and might help remind people to check out backrounds.

I called her yesterday about insurance but she got very uncivil and said if I ever tried to contact her again she would call the cops for herrassment. . . so to the courts. . . darnit

threedognite is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Trainer lost Luther and I have to pay

This would depend on the contract you signed (if you did) in the beginning. The contract might state that the trainer is not to be held responsible for anything that happens to the dog. As a dog trainer myself, I would feel responsible for what happened and try to compensate the dog owner IF I were the cause of the dog getting away from me.
I would read that contract if I were you and see if the trainer is indeed exempt from being responsible. The best you can do at this point is take the trainer to Civil Court.
I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your dog and I hope he's okay now.
