winter clothing

Hi, Scooter lives up here in Toronto Canada and this winter will be his 1st. I've gone through muttluks for my bigger guys but what are the better boots for shih tzus? I find the Muttluks fall off easily and with a smaller dog, I am sure I would lose a few boots.
We are also looking for a coat. My ideal one would be put on from the bottom up, secured in the back and have an opening in the back for a harness (vs a collar). My list of coat specs seems to be quite the tall order, as our search in the city and the web has turned up nothing.

Appreciate any feedback.

Re: winter clothing

Here is website to check out:

http://www.ruffwear.com/

We have gotten numerous Ruffwear items for Maddie. We have an Approach Pack, Skyliner Bark 'n Boots, Cloud Chaser Coat, K-9 Life Jacket, TurnUp toy and a Mt. Bachelor bed. I'm planning to get her the Web Master Harness and a Swamp Cooler jacket.

Ruffwear stuff is very durable and worth the price. We've been very happy with all the items we have gotten from them.

Re: winter clothing

Hmm... good question on the coat. I've never seen a design like that before, but I've mainly looked for sled dog gear. One thing I know a couple mushers use is an item called a belly blanket (I believe?). It's just what it sounds like. Used in conjunction with a regular coat, it might provide full body coverage, with just the legs and head exposed.

As for boots, I use fleece booties from www.dogbooties.com - they're made for sled dogs, are inexpensive and fit well. My advice is to buy at least 2 sets since they're not too pricey. If you're looking for a more durable bootie to wear on gravel, rocks, hiking, etc., go with a Cordura instead of fleece bootie. I hear the Cordura 1000 holds up fantastic!

Hope this helps!

Hey - just found this link that sells custom dog coats! Maybe they'd be able to make you what you need.
