Tired of Replacing Leads

My Chobe has eaten through and snapped three lead in as many weeks. It's my fault as I forget to unleash him when he's in the back seat of the car. While I'm driving, he's busy chewing. When we get to where we're going, one snap and he breaks free. He has chewed through leather, cloth and retractable leashes. I'd buy him a chain lead but I'm not particularly fond of them. Any recommendations for a more durable lead (and comfortable)? Maybe one that doesn't taste too good?

Re: Tired of Replacing Leads

Try treating the lead with bitter apple?

Also, make sure he has an appropriate chewtoy in the back of the car.

And try to remember to take the lead off, of course....

Re: Tired of Replacing Leads

there is a collar company called lupine that make fairly tough collars and leads. the best part is the lifetime guarantee that you can take it back if it gets damaged in any way and they give you a new one. I buy them for the strays I find homes for so their new owners never have to buy a collar.

Re: Tired of Replacing Leads

Using climbing rope, like Ella's Leads uses, or a static rappelling rope you can easily make your own leads with rope clamps and hardware that you can usually find locally.

Blue can chew right through most ropes but I made a coupler out of a static rope that has barely frayed after a year of use.

ETA: While EllasLead uses climbing rope to make their leads my next leads and coupler will be made from a static rope.

Quote:
•Why "Static" and what does it mean? Well lets just say for example you are in a situation where you are a rescuer and you are lowering a rope to a victim floating in water. Now your average Nylon Rope normally would have about a 1/3rd stretch factor when wet, and if you find yourself in this hypothetical situation, the last thing you want is your rope to stretch like gum on a hot day. You need a rope with "Static" properties! Meaning a rope that will stretch as little as possible and most importantly you need a rope with the superior strength that only a true life line should have, because you never know what end of it you may find yourself holding.
I have a bunch of this glo line static rope. Link. When I make my next leads and coupler/s Ill post how to pics.
