Re: toys for the crate

My dog, Maddie, isn't a huge fan of Kong's either. She likes them, but doesn't love them unless they have some type of treat or peanut butter in them, but that's not so great for keeping your crate clean. Maddie's absolute favorite toy, which she always has with her in her crate, is the Nylabone Turkey Leg from the Big Chew for Big Dogs line. It seems weird since it's not soft, but she carries her turkey leg with her wherever she goes like a kid would carry a security blanket. You can read more about our experience with the Nylabone Turkey Leg on our blog at: http://www.maddiethedane.com/weblog/...paws-ruff.html

Re: toys for the crate

I just mentioned this on another thread.
The crate for my dog is too large (hes growing, so we got it big) so we put his milkcrate full of toys in it (plush squeekers, teething things, rope bones, balls, rings, kong toys). I walk in sometimes to find him sitting in it. He is never bored. Just make sure you don't put like raw hide or cheep toys in with your dog while you are out incase he breaks off a small piece.

Re: toys for the crate

I was told not to let dogs use rope toys or balls unsupervised as they can be too much of a choking hazard.

Sadie didn't like her kong, so I filled it with pumpkin and froze it - she doesn't chew it yet but it does keep her busy for a while. Also have to do that on an old towel, as it gets messy fast (and so does she!)

Otherwise I use a nice soft bed, a plushy squeaky toy, and a new bone/chew (meaning one that is still full size, not small and about to break up).

Edit: And always a special treat! She gets a very high value treat for going in when I tell her, find something special she loves. For Sadie it's liver treats, she loves them.
