| Re: Advice on dog toys for aggressive chewers My experience with how toys handle around my OCD lab and my mastiff adolecsent: In this corner, weighing 110 pounds, HUnter the lab mix
and his challenger for the title of "Hardest dog to buy dog toys for" is Dozer, the 140 plus pound mastiff.
Round one Firefighter Hose toy= Hunter, using his superior brain, quickly finds that if he uses his front teeth to pull on the strings at the corner ends of the toy, it quickly unravels and opens one end, spilling out all the stuffing and revealing the coveted squeker, which is destroyed immedietly. This round goes to Hunter
Round two Tire bighter= Dozer, using his powerful jaws and chewing complusion, quickly makes work of this toy and it is shredded and thrown away. This round goes to Dozer.
Roound three Cow hoof= Not an actual toy, this item is still in some semblance of its original self. Attracting both dogs at random times for a brief chew, this thing has lasted this household the longest. Dogs like it too. ROund is tied. Both dogs win, because they have taught me to bring them toys and treats often.
I have done the Kong route too. The black ones lasted the longest. They still got demolished. No stuffed animal, no matter how 'tough' has done it either. I buy them occassionally though because I see how much they love ripping them. And for some odd reason, the ones without stuffing last the longest. They are also fans of the ones with empty plastic bottles inside. If I find a really cheap sewing machine, I am seriously considering starting that up and just making them toys. I don't think they care that much how 'cute' a toy is.
I think variety is important too. |
