| Re: Advice on dog toys for aggressive chewers The wubba was successful for a long time with our puppy, but eventually she pulled the cover off. She still has the tennis ball from inside though.
My dad has a toy for his dog called a Chuckles. http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/a...uff/96006.aspx
Has treat dispensing ends, a noise maker in the middle, and excellent sweet smelling rubber. Probably will die in the jaws of a black Kong killer.
I've also heard of taking toys like the Kong Squeakers tennis balls or donuts and sewing them into a single or double layer of denim. Just use old wranglers...yours or $5 ones from Goodwill. Re-cover the squeaker when your dog gets through the first cover(s).
Warning about real tennis balls: they contain a small plastic ball inside. Most dogs cannot chew through the tennis balls, but aggressive chewers are at risk for choking on this plastic ball if they get through the rubber.
Also, I can't find the brand name, but there is a company that makes giant PVC lined heavy duty dog toys. I saw them at my local feed store. One was a 2 foot tall dinosaur. Double stitched and really rigid. Could be a good choice. |

| Re: Advice on dog toys for aggressive chewers I agree with previous posters on the kongs. For our 15 pound papimo, we had to purchase a Kong for a large dog. It's too big for him, but he is completely unable to do any damage to it. He also has not been able to put a dent in his Tire Biter (also for a large dog). However, he also does not seem to care for it. He also has a tennis ball he has not destroyed. However, those remain his only toys. He has destroyed all nylabone products and other toys from pets stores that declare themselves as being "indestructible." Thank God Petco/Petsmart has a return policy for full refund if the dog destroys the toy within a certain amount of time!
We have begun to stick with various rawhides, heavy duty bones, and other chewy-treats to occupy him and keep him from boredom. |

| Re: Advice on dog toys for aggressive chewers I have a Catahoula and she loves squeeky toys but thinks its her job to get the squeekers out so her toys usually don't last longer than a day. She doesn't like tug toys or kongs. Does anyone know of any durable squeeky toys that might last a few days more? |

I have a JW Holee Molee toy that I put one or two XS size Kong Air Squeaker balls inside of (they just fit). She'll spend hours getting the tennis balls out. If you're concerned that the dog won't have the patience to work on the squeakers and will instead turn on the ball holding them, or if you think your dog will swallow the XS balls, use a 5" Holee Roller w/ the small size Kong Squeakers, or a 8" Holee Roller w/ the medium size (normal tennis ball) Kong Squeakers.
The idea is to make the squeaker ball the focus by getting your dog super excited about it, then putting it in a difficult housing. With focus on the squeaker ball, my dog does relatively little to the out ball. She has actually used the combo for about 30 hours of intense play time with minimal damage to the Holee Molee.
Also, Holee Rollers and Sphericons are flexible! Try putting treats or chewies inside, like a pig ear in the 8" Holee Roller.
Lastly, Triple Crown/Starmark has a new treat dispensing toy out called the Everlasting Treat Ball. The treats can be a bit expensive, but my customers swear by them. |

Very seriously we want your damaged GoughNut toy back. This is our investment in trying help keep your dog safe. Our GoughNuts are very durable. If they were not, the guarantee policy would have taken us under 3 years ago. Instead we are gaining ground and have more designs coming. GoughNuts needs all the support we can get. We love what we are accomplishing. We simply are making the best that we know how and our company premise is safety. If you see red, please send me your GoughNut back.
Great Chew chat. Did I mention the GoughNuts float! Summer is here. Any of your dogs swim?
Thanks,

| Re: Advice on dog toys for aggressive chewers The goughnut sounds good, I am going to have to try one.
My min poodle chews like a big dog and is a major shredder. I have tried every plush, stuffing free, fire hose type or nylon covered, toy you can imagine and none lasted.
I have had luck with the Kong BALL with the hole and I insert a treat or piece of bully stick in the middle.
My best buy so far has been the cuz. Price was great and so far, a week later, she still has not removed the squeaky!! This is a record for squeaky toys. ( I know that is only a matter of time before she chews it out, so I do supervise her play time.)
edit: The cuz ball that lasts is one that does NOT have feet. It is light blue and has stubby legs only. We also stopped giving her the red ball because we read stories about dogs getting their tongues stuck in balls that had a hole in them.
BTW, that ball is STILL hanging in there!

| Re: Advice on dog toys for aggressive chewers I have the WORST dog to try and pick toys for. Most toys she is absolutly indifferent to and the rest she literally murders in no time flat.
goughnuts were boring, the black kong died QUICK, plush toys die instantly, firehose stuff is boring or dies instantly if it has a squeek. rope toys are only fun if im on the other end tugging, jolly ball she was indifferent to...
the ONLY thing she likes that has stood the test of time is a giant heavy duty plastic bucket..
her flirt pole she only gets to play with during training |

One of our new goals is to address the need for the dog to win. This design will be out in August.
Does your dog swim as the GoughNut floats - Does your dog fetch as the GoughNut is a virtual wheel that rolls and rolls. As discussed we are addressing additional interest with one key consistent premise in mind - Safety!
Thanks again.

| Re: Advice on dog toys for aggressive chewers I found this post through Google. I realize it is a relatively old post, however, the GoughNuts .75 is perfect for the small to medium size dog that can destroy stuff. The newest Sticks and the original size are for large dogs.
Thanks,

| Re: Advice on dog toys for aggressive chewers I have 2 lab boys that have distroyed just about every toys on the market.
I give them the black kongs and and only buy the dog toys that are made out of fire hydrant canvas. They are really super tough and hold up for a long time to continuous chewing.
I told everyone to stop buying my dogs toys as they would be destroyed in less then 5 minutes and then it would take me 15 minutes to go around the house and yard picking up all the scrap pieces.
For balls, i buy baseballs as they are really tough too. I have bought they a couple of basket balls too. They do pop them but they still have lots of fun with it for weeks after they have popped it. |

| Re: Advice on dog toys for aggressive chewers Any advice on strong squeaker toys? I have a 7mos old Dobbie mix who destroys just about everything I buy her... Nylabones are a snack to her it seems, and all the other heavy duty rubber toys Ive bought she has no interest in since they do not make noise. She pays no attention to Kong's unless there are treats in them, and then only until she get the treats out. Rope toys she likes to pull the strings on the ends out, so she can only have them when playing pull... She literally peals tennis balls like a piece of fruit... You can guess on plush toys. Canvas toys last maybe 2 or 3 minutes longer then plush...
I would even settle for some kind of spray or something that would make the rubber noiseless toys more appealing....
Any suggestions? Link to wear you can get them would be great too.
Thanks |

She loves (not sure of the name) the squeaky balls with the feet on them but chews off the feet. She really loves squeaky toys too-but again they dont last very long.
Also is it safe to put a kong toy in her crate even though she chews so aggressively. Could that be a choking hazard??
Anyone have any recommendations???? |
I have had large Agressive chewers, and the only thing I have found so far that has lasted are the kong style toys from Walmart for $4.97 they come in different colors and fire hydrant shapes. I stuff them with peanut butter and other things, sometimes freeze them, makes them last longer, my dogs still chew on them empty.... Good luck. |

They are made out of fire hose, which is supposed to be really tough. Some of her styles have squeakers in them.
Hope that helps! |

| Re: Advice on dog toys for aggressive chewers My pit bull mix is a very aggressive chewer. She destroys almost all of her toys. The ones that have lasted are her large Kong ball and the extreme Kong (the black one).
Her favorite toy in the world is the medium Kong ball, but she destroys them fairly regularly, so we have to replace it every month or so. |

| Re: Advice on dog toys for aggressive chewers Have you tried Goughnuts? They have one for extreme chewers that is also black.
They are ring shaped, but recently came out with a stick too.
I've only heard positive things about them!
Other options are fire hose toys (Katie's Bumpers are great!), deer antlers (antlerz, lucky buck), huck and hurley dog toy (west paw design), and Tuffy's dog toys.
But if he destroys all else, I would try the Goughnuts! |

| Hey I really like that idea of sewing your dog toys into denim! It's a fabric so they still get that "plush" feeling - but it's not tearable or pluckable!
We have a very similar problem to many here. Our little 7-month old Beagle-x-something chews with her razor-sharp new teeth. Now - she doesn't chew through rubber balls or nylabones for aggressive chewers - but the problem is she gets BORED of toys like that real quickly. She WANTS and NEEDS plush toys. It's like all she wants to chew on just about anymore!! In the past month, we have spent roughly about $100 to assorted duckies, plush bones, football-shaped army toys with fabric loops on them, and others. Last night, I caved and bought one of those plush rings by MYDOGTOY.COM from PetSmart for her. It was rated a 9 on a scale of 1-10 of indestructability. It's stitches and fabric were ROCK HARD. I nervously gave it to her last night. She thrashed it around a bit and played a bit, then all went silent. I checked on her 60 seconds later......and she had already frayed several places around the edges. I plucked it from her and it will be getting returned to PetSmart tonight! I was pretty MAD that they could sell something that was touted as virtually indestructible - and then my puppy can chew through it in seconds. Grrr!!!!
I'm really starting to wrack my brains now about what else to give her to chew on - and it's getting kinda frustrating. Part of me can't believe that she is such an aggressive chewer and part of me can't believe that there's nothing on the market for dogs like that. All we can leave her with is rubber toys like her Kong and her Nylabone. Then after she gets all the treats out of her Kong she starts chewing our living room rug. Problem!!
