| Dog seems to cry a lot? Hey
I have a well bout 3 and half month old Pitbull/Chow mix and she seems to cry a lot. I dont know why but her eyes seem to have tear marks running down a lot. not always but like i said its very often that she does.
Is this just a puppy phase? I have seen other dogs that do this and i honestly dont like it.
Also when she wakes up in the morning she has like really bad im not sure what they are called but 'eye boogers' she gets them out herself ive never wiped them out as she seems to do fine but im wondering why this. Ive had dogs that ONCE in a while have them but she has them every single morning.
Thanks in advance. |

| Re: Dog seems to cry a lot? If you are talking about eye drainage, it's usually an indication of an allergy or an infection. What color is the discharge? |

| Re: Dog seems to cry a lot? You mean when she wakes up or just the general what seems to be tears?
When she wakes up the 'eye booger' as i called it looks and feels exactly like a booger except its from her eye.
The actual what i referred to as tears seems to be clear. But darkened by her fer to look black. It just runs down her face. |

| Re: Dog seems to cry a lot? Both...Dogs may have clear tears from time to time, but if it's excessive and or the color changes to cloudy, yellow, green, etc...then a vet trip might be in order. |

| Re: Dog seems to cry a lot? Yeah. Its not running ALL the time. But USUALLY when she wakes up. My other dog sometimes has 'eye boogers' too but not to the exstent up this one where it is a common almost every morning occurance.
I dont think its anything serious doesnt seem like it atleast.
Thanks for the input |

| Re: Dog seems to cry a lot? Well we have only had her for a little over a month now. But basically shes been on the same food since she got here. She has choices though. With our other dog which we have had for some time he has a couple things laid out.
He has soft food called "Moist and Meaty" Then he has his regular hard food. The puppy has those choices but also has her pedigree puppy food. Which the dogs dont seem to discriminate against one kind. And the other dog we taught not to touch the puppy food.
In the mornings they each get 'breakfast' which is some pedigree canned food. And at night after we all eat dinner they each get a treat. Lately is been dog cookies. |

| Re: Dog seems to cry a lot? I might urge you to find a better quality dog food - Pedigree is full of crap, IMO. It's full of corn, wheat and nasty by-products that dogs don't need and are known allergens. Do a search through the feeding forum here, you will come up with about 100 threads where food has been discussed.
Here's also a great site for Dog food reviews - Pedigree is a 1, being the worst. You might do well by finding something that has less filler and more meat in the 4,5 and 6 category. I feed RAW and sometimes Timberwolf, but I know a lot of our members have had great sucess with Canidae. www.dogfoodanalysis.com |

The issue though is we cannot afford anything more expensive really. But i will check the link out and look around and see what i can come up with for the price. |

| Re: Dog seems to cry a lot? Canidae is pretty reasonable, in fact you can buy a 40lb bag of All Life Stages Canidae for about 35 bucks, where as you pay somewhere around 30 bucks for a 35lb bag of Pedigree. |

| Re: Dog seems to cry a lot? You'll find that by feeding a better quality diet that you will actually save money over time due to (1) dog requires less food to get needed nutrition, and (2) lower vet bills. |

What state do you live in, some of the foods mentioned on here I have not heard of either? The dog may have a tear duct problem so the vet might be a good idea. Good luck |

AND I've accumulated 82.34 PSP points.
When I reach 100 points, I think I get a free condo in Cozumel or maybe $5.00 off my next purchase.
As mentioned, it's a bargain because there are no fillers and you end up feeding the dog less. |

| Re: Dog seems to cry a lot? If you absolutely, positively HAVE to feed something you can buy at Wal-Mart, Purina One would be my choice.
That's what Esther ate for 1-1/2 years and it didn't kill her. But, since she switched to Caindae, she has learned three foreign languages and written her Master's thesis on the ecology of the wild boar (Sus scrofa.) |
