Something missing at Gilbert dog park?

Gilbert dog park is a few miles from my home. From the pictures, it looks very nice. Do you see something missing or is it just me? Where is the fence around the pond? Wouldn't it be easy for a larger dog to jump out of the pond and run away?

Well no one should be bringing a dog that is prone to run away or does not have a good recall to a dog park in the firt place. The dog park I take blaze to is not fenced in at all. Its 1000's of acres so it would be to much to put the fence in. And yet I havnt nore do I know any one that has ahd a dog run away from there yet. Dogs need training to be allowed out in a place like that.

1000's of acres for a dog park? That is big enough to be a state park!

Re: Something missing at Gilbert dog park?

Wow! Thousands of acres? My dogs think they are in heaven when I take them to my friends house with 10 acres. My poor city dogs. I am so afraid to go to dog parks anyway. I have had some bad experiences at them. Like tankstar said a dog is supposed to be trained to go to places like that. Unfortunately many people don't. They should also be socialized, and I have seen many that were not either. Have fun though, I know they are great and most people have a great time with their dogs at the parks. I guess you guys are lucky to have good dog parks by you. I am jealous.

Re: Something missing at Gilbert dog park?

Well it used to be a old camp ground. So it is 1000's of acres of unused land now. So dog people have taken ove.r it isnt a offical dog park. But every one uses it as that.

My dog park is good, depending on the days and times. I go monday to friday and join in the early afternoon crowd all in all there is about 9 people and 23 dogs as a group. We have no problems at all. Little scuffles here and there, but not much and thats to be expected. Weekenda re the wors and I dont go very often at all then. most people do not know their dogs very well and dont have good control over them. Everytime I take Blaze he gets bullied by other uncontrolable dogs. But with the 23 dogs we hang out with on a daily basis. There is no problems. Its a big group of boxers, gsds, border collies my one and only rough collie lots of doodles a few other mutts and a staffie/pitbull mix who all get along wonderfly. I love it there.

Just curious, where are you located? If it was here, someone would quickly grab that land for a housing development.

I always thought the only requirment other than being up to date on shots and a member of the park was that they were dog and people friendly. I figured most dog parks have fences to keep the dogs in because not every ones dog always obeys every command.

I stopped going to the dog parks because some people ignore the rules and bring nasty little nippy dogs there.
