Behavior and Housetraining

Why won't my 3 yr old dog let me know when he as to go outside while I am awake? He can go hours without urinating when confined to one room, but will sneak away to urinate while I am lounging around. He scratches a door to wake me up in the middle of the night, and does almost nightly. He went four months in my new home before he had his first "accident", but now he will have an accident every other week. Otherwise he is like glue to me and won't leave my side. Any suggestions????? Please

?Help? Please read again

Re: Behavior and Housetraining

I'm assuming you have only had this dog for a short time and that this is not a new behavior that just started after 3yrs of living with the dog?

Rather than waiting for him to tell you he has to go out, take him out regularly on schedule. I let my dogs out approximately every 6 hrs whether they ask to go or not.
