Ewww.....Chloe got a tick....help!!

Ok, Here is the story. Chloe is a maltese toy poodle mix, she is almost five years old (October) and has never had a tick before. This evening I found one right in her arm pit....poor baby. I had noticed it a few nights ago but it looked like a scab so I left it alone. I realized tonight upon closer inspection (because it looked bigger) that it was infact a tick. I pulled it out and put some antibiotic on it. Oh and I doused the little bugger in alcohol to make sure it was good and neutralized. She is ok now but is there anything I should be concerned about? I know my area is a lyme disease area and a basebiosis area (not high risk but still a risk) so I know those symptoms to looks for but is there anything else I should be worried about? I live in Southwestern Ontatio....literally right across from Detriot in Windsor and right off of an field with lots of tall tall grass....lovely tick habitat.
The area where the tick was was a little red and now that I have pulled it out it is VERY red, but I think it is because I irritated the area with the hot cloth I used and the tweezers I yanked it with.

Do you treat your dogs with a tick preventative and do they get lyme vaccine?

Sounds like you did a lot to make sure your dog is in good health. I'll say she is safe now. Like briteday said, do you get her a vaccine for lyme disease?

No she doesn;t get the vaccine for lyme disease but she is on a preventative to keep fleas and ticks away (frontline). I don't vaccinate her because she has had serious reactions to the rabies vaccine and the vaccines for parvo and leptospirosis. I am going to be keeping a very close eye on her but I wanted to know if there were any other things I had to watch out for with her.
I am a bit worried because I think the head of the tick was left inside the skin because there is a tiny little black spot in the middle of the bite wound and it looks a bit to swollen for my liking. I am bringing her to the vet on saturday morning to have it checked out just in case but I have cleaned it and put some antibiotic ointment on it until I see him.
