Originally I was the poster of chorkie vs. chi-poo. My problem was that I was looking for a new puppy for our home. After continuously checking shelters and newspapers nothing came up for a small male dog that was a big lover and could be litter trained. So it ended in me eventually looking into a chi-poo or chorkie. My decision ended up being on a chi-poo, Stopping by the atm on my home from work to get the initial cost for the puppy then just 2 hours away from my appointment to go greet my new puppy, I decided skipping lunch that had began to take it's toll so I decided to stop home for a quick lunch. The phone rang and it was from one of the shelters I had visited saying that they received a puppy I might be interested. His name was originally Oakley, found wandering the side of a nearby highway, barely dodging death as he tried to run across to a gas station where he saw people hoping for a bite to eat. A kind woman worried about his safety took him for some lunch and brought him into the shelter. He is only 8 weeks, despite being a little hungry and a few fleas, he is in perfect health. He is a Dachshund mix, looking like a very small, long labrador retriever. He is brown/black brindle with white patch zig-zagging down his chest, and the most beautiful golden amber eyes. Well they told me he wasn't as small of a puppy as I was initially looking for, but when it came to character he was the sweetest pup they've seen in a long time. So I thought that he is definitely worth checking out, so I canceled my appointment with the breeder and drove 3 hours to meet him. They told me to wait in the adoption room while they went and got him, they brought him on on a leash and right away his ears picked up and he nearly choked himself trying to run over.So they took him off the leash and closed the door gave me a couple treats and toys and left me to spend some time with him. Ziggy's 1st act was to play "lick off your face" and took kindly to my lap. As I got out his rope bone I tossed it, he ran brought it back and sat calmly on my lap, of course that called for a treat. We then played tug of war, and another few rounds of lick your face off. The shelter worker then came back about 30 minutes later and asked what I thought about Ziggy. I looked at him still sitting on my lap looking up his tail still wagging since he walked in the room, and I looked at her and replied "to be perfectly honest, it was love at first site" We then went through the paperwork and set up a date for Ziggy to be neutered. I then had to leave and Ziggy looked so sad,as if many people had looked at him and simply left without another thought. But I was at home very eager to pick him up from the vets to his new home, which very slowly came 2 days later. Still a little drowsy from the surgery the vet brought him out in a crate, and sat him on the floor, I opened the door and out popped his little head. I knew he recognized me right away his tail started wagging again and a little swayish he came right up to my feet and we began the long drive home. He never moved from my lap, just sat there and slept, waking up only a few blocks from my driveway. Right away my other dog took interest (black lab) and Ziggy as well they began a lovely game of chase and both welcomed a hearty meal afterwards. Ziggy made his way back to my room while I was getting all his paperwork into a folder, put his 2 paws on the side of the bed and begged to come up. And so far that seems to be his biggest enjoyment of the day, is couch time with me. I couldn't have asked for a sweeter baby. He is doing great on house training, my other dog I think is teaching him about the doggy door, so far no accidents at all

He's very curious about the horses and loves to walk with me in the stable and when I turn them out for the afternoon, the horses seem just as curious and my beautiful 8 year old Dusty doesn't mind a bit if Ziggy curls up with him for a nap while I clean his stable. ( Dusty also tries to give my lab a bath lol hes so funny) The breeder was disappointed understandably but as for me it was truly meant to be.
