About the Earth's Children series...I also have read them all 3 times they have so much detail, it's amazing. From what I understand, Auel's enthusiasm for the series has waned a bit since some of the details that form the foundation of the series have since been disproved: the biggest one is that it now appears that Neanderthals probably could actually talk, vocally. The series was begun in the 80s, I think, so I guess it's not really surprising that research has unearthed new data since then, but I really hope she follows through and finishes the series :-/

| Re: How did you name your dog? Lets see, my list of dog names...these are different Blue - not very original, but what 3 year old kid is? My mom brought her home, she was a red Queensland heeler with two blue eyes...I had her until I was 17. Bailey - I named her after my favorite cowboy hat (I was still on the rodeo circuit) it was a Bailey 20X - and she was another "cow dog" she loves my grandfather so she stayed at the ranch. Jessie - Greyhound/Catahoula mix? No idea, definetely greyhound in her though...my grandmother loved her and "confiscated" her...so I let her go since she loves my grandmother. Jake - purebred GSD. Ex husband named him, then hated him and "disposed" of him while I was at work. Fluff - purebred GSD, had a small patch of tan fur that grew out of the corner of one eye...neighbor poisoned her (in my front yard) because he said she killed his chickens, then he lost all his chickens to the dog that was really doing it. Carl - I can't really say why we named him this, it's not very polite, but he was great for leaving piles of poop in the house...enough said. He was a Border Collie, he went to a ranch locally owned by a friend of mine. Meatball - friends dog that I was taking care of that they never came to get...GSD/God knows what mix - rehomed Sweetie - Basset Hound - I didn't name her, she came with that name and with good reason. Sparky - Basset Hound - Originally named "Mr. Sparkles" UGHHHHHH! Sparky is more fitting even though I don't care for it. Smokey - APBT/Bullmastiff - came with the name, I guess because his face is a smokey gray color...he's 5 years old and I didn't change it. |

| Re: How did you name your dog? I named my shih-tzu x bichon Kiri which is 'Mountain' in Cambodian. When I looked it up initially, I thought it meant 'Mighty' and thought it would be cute for a small cute dog. But I learned it meant 'Mountain' and that it was masculine! Oh well!!! I chose a Cambodian name because my dad, who passed away in 2002, was Cambodian. I'm not sure how my dad would feel about this kind of tribute but I'm sure he'd be a little tickled that I chose Kiri. She's a small puppy but she has a mountain of a personality and always willing to jump up for a kiss! |

| Re: How did you name your dog? Goldens were developed in Scotland - they are my husbands primarilly and they all have english names. Connor, Kaelyn and Emmett
The Flat Coats - the ones that were born someplace else have English/Scottish gaelic names...... ie. Meghan and Cuinn
the Flat coats born here have Hebrew names (the Jewish dogs) Shalva and Meir
when you have seven dogs it gets hard to find original names that aren't hard to say and pass the yell in the field test .....
I want easy to say, easy to spell but different..... for the flat coats anyway, I dont have alot of say in the golden names lolol
but haven't ever met any other pups named Shalva or Meir our next flat coat will be a bitch puppy and i am guessing her name will be Lirit or Tirzah
will cross that bridge when it comes

| Re: How did you name your dog? Well, when we got Angel from the breeder, I was originally going to name her Spring (For the time of year we got her and because I imagined her 'springing' over jumps). However, the first comment my mother made was that 'she sounds like a little angel whining back there.' That got me thinking about the name Angel, and since my current favorite movie was Phantom of the Opera, I decided to name her Angel. (After the Angel of Music).
Our cat, Spider, we found as a stray approximately 6 years ago. It was my brothers turn to name the pet, so he did. He named him Spider-man much to our... well, disagreement. However, we soon figured out that Spider fit him perfectly, so his name is now Spider.
With our parakeet, it was quite simple. Kiwi was green, black, and turquoise, so we decided to name him Kiwi. |

| Re: How did you name your dog? I put quite a lot of thought into my current puppy's call name and registered name.
His call name will be Noah (he's only 2 weeks old right now). Noah means "comfort and rest" and is just a gorgeous name to me. It worked out well, he was born during a very heavy storm and everything flooded!
His registered name is "In Rainbows" - the 'rainbow' symbol is linked to the biblical figure of Noah as a sign of trust and promise. However, the name was really inspired by the rainbow symbolism in Faust (by Goethe). Faust discovers that the rainbow means - "Life is but light in many-hued reflection". We experience life through a reflection, through memories, and we can never be "in" rainbows as the closer we get they seem to move away. DOGS live life in the present, in the here and now, and so my puppy is in "In Rainbows", he experiences life as it happens
(I also ripped the name of Radiohead hehe)
My pup is a blue merle Rough Collie.
My other dog - Reilly, was named after the character of Riley in Buffy the Vampire Slayer |

| Re: How did you name your dog? Both of my current dogs came with their names. But my dogs I had when I lived with my parents we had to choose a name for.
We got a Beagle one year right before Christmas, so we wanted to give him a Christmasy name. We decided on St. Nicholas, or Nick for short of course.
My second dog, a Terrier mix, we got her when I was in middle school and Lisa Frank school supplies was my favorite thing ever. The puppy was nothing but a blonde fluff ball, so I named her Casey, after the two yellow puppies Lisa Frank had called Casey and Candy. That year for Christmas my parents bought me a stuffed version of Candy, so I had two Lisa Frank dogs! |

| Re: How did you name your dog? I got my puppy when he was 9 weeks old. Though he has a lot of black on him in the avatar pic, when I first got him he had very little. It was pretty much all grey. As I am a big fan of the japanese language, I decided to name him "Kumo", meaning 'cloud'. |
