| How do you name your dogs Well, our first doxie came to us and looked just like Lady off of Lady and the Tramp so the kids wouldn't go with nothing else. She is our little Lady in waiting now. Copper was named by my mother in law. He is a cream doxie but everytime the sun hit his fur, it looked like Copper, thus his name Copper. Addie was named because she was and "addition" to our clan and she just looked like an Addie. The next three were already named Taffy Sue, Hanna, and Benny. |

| I named my one sheltie Brandy after a dog (Boxer) that I had growing up that I thought was the best dog in the world (til I got my sheltie!). I named my other sheltie Dakota just because I loved the name! |

| Re: How did you name your dog? When we decided we were going to get a puppy, I got on the net and started looking up boy names for dogs. I had a list written down and I took it with us when we went to look at Cooper at the shelter. On the was home, he was sleeping in my lap and we kept saying names and looking at him and none of them seemed to fit. I said "Cooper" as I looked at him and Tim said "Yep, that's it. That's his name." Our next dog will also have a name that starts with a "C".
My parents named their Beagle Jackson after the basic training camp that my brother went to for the Army.
Their Pug/Daschund is named Phoebe after Phoebe on Friends.
My brother named his Boston Terrier Axel after Axel Foley on Beverly Hills Cop.

| Re: How did you name your dog? We named our boy Gus after our favorite book/movie character, Augustus McRae, from Lonesome Dove. It's probably the only movie both my husband and I can agree on as a favorite. I just wish our Gus had the easygoing nature of his namesake, but we love him anyway! |

| Re: How did you name your dog? With my first dog a black cocker, my daughter got the chance to name him and called him "Blackie" which really peeded me off. I tried and tried to convince her not to call him that but she was having none of it. Anyway along came our Samoyed, white, fluffy etc. My daughter yet again wanted a say in the name and said "SNOWY" I think the look on my face was enough, then she wanted "FLUFFY" again the look on my face was enough. She then begged for "SAMMIE" and no way as they are known as "sammies"
In the end he was called "Max" even tho a very common name, i think its quite a macho name and these dogs even tho graceful when fully grown they do have a macho look about them. We all agreed EVENTUALLY on max. I would have loved a cute name like pip etc but I just dont think it would have suited him as an adult. |

| Re: How did you name your dog? Digit was named because my son who was 6 years old at the time was really interested in math. He would count the puppies every day. saying digit 1, digit 2, all the way to digit 7. Digit was Digit 7. The vet and I managed to find homes for all 6, except Digit. Son named him Digit when we decided to keep him.
Dozer lives up to his name..He will be running soooo fast and be looking behind him and if your in his path..whamo...your down.
Puddles is well you know. Plus sheee lovveeessss water...
Ollie came with his name, We tried to get him to respond to different things when he came but Ollie was our best bet. I like it anyways, I get to sing that old childhood chant "Ollie Ollie ox im freeeeeee" Kinda fun |

| Re: Irish names I wanted a name that was original and cute, but still masculine. So, I named my Pug Sukoshi Kuma, which is Japanese for Little Bear. We call him Kuma for short. It suits him perfectly! |

| Re: How did you name your dog? A few years ago while on our way to hike, my boyfriend and I took a different route than normal and ended up on Boskydell Road. The name stuck with me instantly, and I said if I ever had a dog again, I wanted to name it Boskydell. Well...we got a dog a few years after coming across the road intially, and when we adopted him from the shelter, the lady had named him Chili. He looked nothing like a Chili, didn't answer to the name, and frankly...we didn't like the name. We made a list of potential names, but in the end Boskydell won out! |

This is just for the reference. “Sukoshi” actually means “less” and usually used to refer the “amount” rather than the “size”. If you’d like to call your dog a little bear, it would be “chiisai kua” or “koguma” which can also mean “ a “bear cub”.
I’m Japanese, by the way.
My wife wants a pug actually and she wants to name her “puggy” or “pugsley”.

| Re: Irish names Well, I did a search in a Japanese to English dictionary and that's what came up. I'm really not too concerened with being absolutely grammatically correct. It works for me either way. |

| Re: How did you name your dog? ok mine have all sorts of reasoning behind them.
Dachshunds
Penny-because she is so rotten she is not worth a plug nickel
Hoss- he is the hoss daddy_orginally named Hoss for Bonanza
Hunter-we are a hunting family and it fit
Ellie- she is wild reminded me of Ellie Mae Calpit
Charlye-She is blind so Ray Charles
Belle- She is long hair and prissy so she is the Belle of the ball
Hershee- she is a choc and tan dachshund enough said
Rosie- she is a red long hair and I like Rose on Golden Girls
Ennis- My son likes the Dukes of Hazard
Skip-already named I would have never picked it
Scooter- already named but I am ok with it
Dixie-growing up always had beagles named Dixie just had to keep it going
Sugar Babee- It was what my Grandfather called me. He passed a few years back.
Non Dachshunds
Susie-(lab)My son tells me that is what you call a female duck
Drake-(lab) Male duck
Tater (basset mix) We love the tater salad joke Ron White
Horses
RedMan- Chewing Tobacco

| Re: How did you name your dog? My family has been doing D names for awhile.
Dasiy
Duchess
Duke
Danny(female)
Dawn
Dusk
All of these dogs have passed eexcept for Duke, Dawn, and Dusk. Duke was my dad's dog and lives with my Mom. Dawn was going to be Diamond up to the very day I brought her home. She was to sweet and shy at first to be a diamond. And Dawn is a red dobe so it suits her.
Dusk was named to match Dawn's name. But I tend to be constantly correcting people, since it sounds like Dust. I have no idea why anyone would thik I name my dog after dirt. My grandmother also calls him Duck, and the handler called him Dawson for a weekend. Is Dusk that complicated? It must be. LOL
Non the less, am runningout of D names so will have to change themes. I am considering a transition to a nature theme considering my cuurent names.

| Re: How did you name your dog? "Kim" means "golden" in Vietnamese (part of my family is Vietnamese, though I don't actually know the language ) Rescue name: Cookie...just didn't fit her at all.
~~~~~~~
Family dogs, before I moved out, in reverse chronological order: Sherman - Lab mix, named by the young couple who gave him up, and we kept the name Buddy - Golden retriever mix we named because he was our buddy (we were creative little kids, let me tell you what  ), my favorite dog ever (besides Kim of course  ) Gizmo - miniature poodle, named by my grandparents who owned her before they moved. The didn't want to take her with them, so we adopted her. Cody - Siberian husky we fostered, named by original owner Max - Lab mix we named after Maxine Maxine - Older rough collie we rescued from a family whose son turned out to be alergic to dogs, also named before we got her.
| Re: Irish names We have kept reptiles for about 8 years now, we name all of them after Marvel Comic characters. We only thought it was fitting to name our pup the same way. It was a toss up between Lilandra and Lilith, we went with Lilandra and since nobody can seem to pronouce it correctly we have them call her Lil or some call her Lilly.
Harley our newest member of the family...His racing name was Hi Country Man, when my boyfriends mother adopted him she decieded on Harley (don't know why). Since he has had that name for 7 years now why change it, we transferd adoption about 2 weeks ago. |
| Re: How did you name your dog? My 5 year old named Sparky.
I made the mistake of telling him he could name him whatever he wanted...I had to nix choice #1-"Transformer Dog" & #2-"Super Puppy" Sparky was choice # 3 and he was not happy about my vetoing the first two, so Sparky it is! |
| Re: How did you name your dog? On our way back home from the shelter where we picked her up, Hubby and I were discussing different names. It was hard, but then out of the blue I said "Mocha" as a Mocha ice capp was being thirsted for, when I realized that her cute little cheekies were the same color as what I desired for! So, Mocha stuck with her. |
