Picket Lines....

hey everyone, here soon (not sure of the date(s) yet) i am going to try to join a picket line.....this one is to boycott PetLand, a "pet" store that will be dealing in puppies, along w/ all the other animals.....we had a speaker come to our dog club last night (i missed the meeting but a friend got me all the info for it) and talked about it.....so, anyone close to Appleton, WI---if you're interested, try to come......

Oh yes that would be great! We have two Petlands here now...and I've gone into one of them and felt sick. They're aweful and their little critters looks so unhealthy.

A little far for me to travel but I hope you succeed in your goals.

Re: Picket Lines....

This is the first I've heard about it. Thanks for the heads-up, tirluc.

This makes me ill. Blockbuster closed up just down the street from my Appleton house. A downsized engineer from one of our paper companies is opening a Petland in the Blockbuster building.

The pups are coming from Hunte, the largest conglomeration of puppy mills in the country. The Fox Valley Humane Association is calling for a boycott of the store.

Here's a link to a local news broadcast about it:

http://www.nbc26.com/news/local/7621966.html

I've bragged more than once about the fact that Appleton area pet stores don't sell puppies. I'll do what I can to make sure this one doesn't.

Re: Picket Lines....

Its to bad a independent businessman has to take the brunt of this but he has alternate choices. Hunte is probably the least expensive which just tells me the puppies have the worst conditions.
I can't be with you except in spirit RonE.

Re: Picket Lines....

Ugh I wish I was closer. We just got a Petland here. I went in the other day to see what the deal was with it...ugh! The guy was trying to talk this family into buying one of these puppies as a show dog and all this crap...it was clearly a terrible place.

Then again we have an Animal Kingdom too and that's awful..and I just found out that these puppies are highly prone to like ringworms and tapeworms and if one of the puppies has them they just treat all of the surrounding ones w/o even testing them...they are all grossly over-treated. We get the most problematic puppies in the vet from these pet stores...even more than shelter puppies!

Good luck tirluc!!

Re: Picket Lines....

This is killing me. Every time I drive to work, to the dog park, to my other home in Two Rivers - I have to drive past Petland. It's still under construction, but they're moving right along.

This is a major setback for animal rights in the Fox River Valley.

And, no, I don't think "animal rights" is a nasty term.
