D day

I found out yesterday morning that Penny's progesterone from the blood taken on Monday was 8.2. My eyes nearly popped out of my head. Dr. Barber said she really NEEDED to be bred by today, June 6. Upon speaking to the owner of the stud dog, it quickly became clear that it was impossible to get him collected and the semen shipped so that it would be here the next day. It was too late in the day by the time we figured all this out.

So, yesterday evening, I got in my van, loaded up my girl, and we took a road trip down to Atlanta. After a restless night (for me), we met the stud dog owner at the Reproduction Vet's office this morning. Another very nice person, who shows top winning Akitas.

Everything went very smoothly and was uneventful. The collection, in the words of the vet, was "outstanding" in both quality and volume.

Having seen this dog in the ring numerous times, I was not prepared for his CHARISMA in those close quarters. This dog filled the room with his presence, not in an intimidating way, but his confidence is palpable.

He is very charming and sociable, and Penny ADORED him. We will do a second breeding tomorrow.

Today also happens to be the anniversary of D Day. While I was remembering the incredible sacrifices made by so many valiant young men on the shores of Normandy so that we can live in freedom, I thought, what an auspicious conception date.

The stud dog owner is thrilled with her. He felt this breeding should produce awesome temperament, heads, bone, substance, and...................movement!

I have been smiling so much today my face hurts. How will I ever wait 30 days for an ultrasound???

Re: D day

So, after 2 days and 822 miles, I'm back home.

The second breeding today was just as smooth as yesterday. Today I had a few minutes to visit with him in the waiting room beforehand. What a sweetheart.

His photos do not do him justice.

So now I wait. I admit to coddling her already.

Re: D day

COngratulations! Sounds like you picked a great man for your lady!
One of my co-workers found out on the aniversary of D-Day a few years back that her bitch (a boston terrier) had taken and was pregnant and she decided to name all the pups with names that started with D. I don't remember all the names but there was Dina, DeeDee and Dudley. I think there was six pups in all and o my gosh they were adorable....though not as cute as rotties. My boyfriend and I are hoping to get a male when we get our house. We are only allowed two dogs within city limits and because we live in a townhouse we can only have dogs under 35 pounds (landlord rules) so when we get our house....we will have to add to the family!
BTW, would you know of any good rottweiller breeders near Ontario? I have been looking around but can't seem to find many. I will also be looking into breed rescues and I talk to my local shelters like everyother day because I volunteer at a few of them from time to time.
