Exclamation Warning for Small Pet Owners

I heard a horrible story this morning about a friend who visited her daughter. They slept on the hide-a-bed while they were there. When the daughter folded up the hide-a-bed she didn't know her cat was inside and it broke the cat's back. Consequently they had to have the cat put down. The vet told her that they have numerous incidences of animals being severely injured by hide-a-beds and recliners. I can't stop thinking about how awful this must have been for the poor cat and the owner. Not a lot of people use hide-a-beds all that often but a lot of homes have recliners in them.

I can't even imagine how horrible that was for them. But I can see it happening. I had friends that had a cat that always went into the recliner and many times got closed in there. Never got hurt, fortunately.

We have recliner couches but we rarely ever use them for that simple reason. You can't be too careful when it comes to things like that.

Oh, that is horrible. It reminds me of a time when I was at my brother and sister-in-laws house. I went to close the recliner and it would not close all the way so I got on my hands and knees and started pushing it in and noticed some white fur sticking out

would'nt you think the dog might of yiped or something? I freaked out and opened it and luckily she was fine (a little Bichon).

Even though it was a cat, that is every ferret owner's nightmare. I don't know how many times I've stepped on my two ferts on the floor because they burrow under my dirty clothes and sleep there.

Ugh, this made me remember what happend to my cousins cat. It crawled underneath their basketball goal while they were lifting it up for something and when they set it back down, that kitten was still underneath. They didn't realize it and found him a day later one squashed kitty. Poor guy.

Recliners can be dangerious to big dogs too. Zubin use to lay by ours and if he rabbit kicked it, it would open slighly- placing one of his legs in it- when trying to get up, pushing against it it would start to close- catching his leg. ( we call that chair the puppy catcher- ... ) It may sounds strange, but we put a bunge strap about the base until he was bigger.

That is one of the saddest accidents Thank you for posting this awareness thread. I don't have a recliner or hide a bed...but I have a relative that has 2 recliners.

Yuck!

At my p/t job, a coworker brought in a kitty and let it run loose in the office. After a while it couldn't be found, and we started searching. I heard a tiny "mew" and found it in an open file cabinet, in the area between the rear of the drawer and the back of the cabinet. If someone closed the drawer, the kitty would've gotten squished.

Aww poor thing. That owner must have felt horrible, I know I would have.
One of my friends mother bought a shih tzu/chihuahua puppy and she let it sleep in her bed with her and her husband. Well she woke up the next morning to her husband freaking out because he had woken up for work and when he sat on the bed after his shower to put his socks and shoes on he sat on the puppy and killed instantly. She hasn't had another pet since but I felt so awful for the husband he felt like a murderer and his wife was a wreck for months afterwards. Everytime she saw a dog she would start to cry or get all depressed and sad.
Our living room couch is a pull out but we keep the dogs in our room and they stay clear of the couch when we fold it up or open it up because I am always nervous of them getting hurt.

Yep.. Many ferrets are met with that sad fate because of their insatiable appetite to explore anything we consider remotely dangerous. I've seen a few of those cases at the office and one cat that had its paw snagged and it took the owners an entire day to realize the cat's yowls were attributed to extreme pain.

Some people..
