| Big dog little kitten? I did mention this situation in another area but am posting it as a new thead. I was outside with my AB and turned around to see him holding a stray kitten in his mouth, I froze then gave the off command. He droped the kitten and the kitten just ran, was fine and I was wondering if anyone has any idea why the Kramer did this? It is funny now and he is not cat aggresive so this has me puzzled. |

I used to think my boxer Bess had a low prey drive until we caught her chasing a rabbit. She caught the poor thing and killed it but before that she never even blinked at them. We had a male rabbit named Frisky and she was very good with him and never once went after him. She would lay on the grass and let him hump her and attack her stumpy little tail haha!!
Dogs are wierd like that huh? |

So this has really got me confused and I have seen alot of dogs through rescue, training, and shelters. he could of killed it in a second but was just standing there holding it inhis mouth.
Has your dobie ever got ahold of the cat? He looks like a big boy.

| Re: Big dog little kitten? Maybe the dog loves the cat so much, like a mom/dad. So your dog picked the kitty up like the kittens mom would. Whatever it is, I see this as a confusing sign too, considering if the dog was aggressive, it would have killed the cat. But your dog didnt, and I want to say the dog loves it but then....I dont know, maybe your dog has maternal instincts! Or is it paternal.... |

Jen, if your dog was cat-aggressive, I doubt that the cat would have survived the encounter.
My Irish setter caught a mouse in a little rental house we lived in at the time. The only clue was the tail sticking out of her mouth, which was still twitching. I took the dog outside and said, "Drop the mouse!" which she did. The mouse ran off, probably to tell the story which would become part of the mouse family legend.
When I realized later that my house was over-run with mice, I gave her permission to kill them. For an 85-pound dog, she became quite an efficient mouser. When I moved out, I didn't get my security deposit back. I became so aggravated with the mice, that I actually shot a few in my living room.
In retrospect, that was very irresponsible of me, since my dog was gun-shy. |

The dog was told on numerous occasions that the cat is off limits so he doesnt even recognize the cat anymore. I would rather have them get along like all those other TV pets, but peace at home is more important than their friendship. |

Kramer is the only one that I do trust around the cats atleast more then the others. Quote:

I considered a 12 gauge shotgun, but decided that would be excessive force. |

| Re: Big dog little kitten? I don't do that any more. I'm a home owner now.
And I will NEVER be a landlord. People who rent are crazy. |
