New puppy to the family

I have a 1 year old male Maltese. I want another dog for his companionship. Im not sure whether I should get a male or a female. Would 2 male dogs be very dominant and mark their territory all over my house. Would getting a female puppy be a better idea. I don't plan on breeding them. The maltese is going to be fixed soon.

Re: New puppy to the family

I'm interested in a Maltese for my next puppy. Are they good around children? Is there a difference between the male and female personalities?

I think a female would fair better in getting along with your male...vs getting another male. Have you had your dog around other dogs (males and females) to see how he interacts with each gender? How does he do around the females? and the males?
