I guess this applies to pet owners who have dogs that have straight pointy ears. My puppy is a chihuahua/papillon mix and his ears are floppy. His right ear especially is extremely floppy compared to his left. I know that it takes awhile for dogs to make their ears straight, but when can I tell when his ears will straighten up? I love his floppy ears, nothing wrong with them but I am just curious..and since he is a mixed breed of dogs that have ears that straighten up..will he for sure have that too? It really doesn't seem like it now.
And also, is it normal for one ear to be more floppy and closer to the face than the other ear? And will he outgrow that to make it equally proportioned to one another?
Our pap pups have always had their ears up by 8-12 weeks. Remember though that paps have a variety, known as phalenes, with a drop ear. So ocassionally pups will inherit the drop ear gene and they will remain floppy.
In a mixed breed you are dealing with so many variables that you don't really know what you're going to get in the end. Breeding a true purebred litter from well pedigreed parents is the only true way to know what you will get. And even then there's usually one that doesn't meet breed standards in the litter.
