| Puppies at 12 days..... we are starting to see eyes opening.... The first two are of Elisabeth who is my little one who is having trouble gaining.... although she is looking better with the supplementing and a midnight snack....she is still woefully smaller than the other puppies.... after the pictures of her then after that its puppy free for all.....
I really have to say that breeding is not my favorite thing... just too stressful

| Re: Puppies at 12 days..... Awwwww!!!! They are so cute! My mentor is expecting a litter very soon. I think they may have actually been whelped already.
Very very cute!
BTW- how sad about Elizabeth. I am happy to leave the breeding up to the professionals. I would have no idea how to handle that (hence the point of a mentor, I suppose).
Perhaps one day I will get to post pictures of Orchid's first litter, but part of me dreads that day as much as I look forward to it.
Good luck, Shalva. Thanks for keeping us posted! |

| Re: Puppies at 12 days..... elisabeth is doing better but we are keepign a close eye on her..... I don't know why anyone who loves their pet would breed.... every time I have a litter I say I will never do it again... its really stressful.... I spend most nights up .... I sleep with a flashlight lately.... my bedroom where the whelping box is 85 degrees.... I already had one puppy die.... there is a risk to your bitch.... so the whelping stresses me out..... getting her to feed them is sometimes a challenge if its to hot.... if I didn't love my breed so much as a whole and want to continue my lines I don't think I would ever do it.
I love the puppies i think they are adorable... but this is so not my favorite thing to do.

Is it more stressful when they're this young or when they get older and start running around and getting into trouble? |

no this age is really stressful.... first because they are so intolerant of heat and cold and can't regulate their own body temperature... this leaves them susceptible to multiple bad things..... they have to nurse on their own from their mom and if they don't then its hard to keep them going.... they can't really get around well so they do seek heat and eat and thats about it.... mom has to stimulate them to go to the bathroom.....they are easily sat upon and injured which is how I lost a puppy from my last litter .... mom sat on him and I was standing right there and got her up in split second but the damage was done and his lung was collapsed..... they are just very fragile
I will be happy when they are weaned.... thats when they are more work for me.... as mom doesn't really like cleaning up after them once they are on real food.... but at least I know that they are stronger and more independant.... this age up until around 3.5 weeks just really stresses me out.....

s | Aww wow, I doubt I would be able to handle all that. I'ed probably try wrapping them all in bubble rap and package them safely away from the mother.
I've never understood how mother's manage to just lie down on there children. Like with pigs and how they just smash them. It's so sad. |

| Re: Puppies at 12 days..... Wow, they are beautiful! Thanks for doing the world a favor and breeding to better a breed. Which it looks like that's exactly what you're doing. Just curious, how much do you charge for your puppies?? |
