Another - what breed?

Okay so I've seen several threads on here with pictures of peoples dogs. They are small, maybe 20 pounds, and they look like my Mazie, almost like they could be related. When I got Mazie I was told she was pug and rat terrier. I only have pictures of her when she was young, and all I can do is explain what she looks like now. Her ears stand straight up, they are HUGE, and she weighs alot more. She weighs almost 17 pounds, but, its nothing but muscle. Her face isn't squished in any more, she has an elongated snout. Everything else is pretty much the same except ears always erect and her snout way longer. I need some new pictures but have no digital camera at this time. As soon as I can get new pictures I will. Any earthly idea on what kind of dog she is?

Alot of people ask me if she is puggle..but if you were to see her now, you would say diffrent. Alot of people ask me if she's APBT and I don't think she looks like an APBT at all. I really have no clue what she is, I wish I could find out. No way to afford genetic testing, I need some new pictures. Lol her mom and dad know, and they aint telling!

Re: Another - what breed?

Hmmm...sometimes genetics do some crazy things. It's still possible she's part terrier and part pug. Just maybe not the kind of terrier you thought.

I don't really know anything about rat terriers. I don't think that the AKC recognizes them yet as a breed.

Let me see if I can find some pictures:

Rat terrier

According to their breed club web site, here is the standard for size:

With the body height being measured at the wither/top of the shoulder; dogs shall be shown in two sizes: MINIATURE, "10 inches, up to and including 13 inches" ; and, STANDARD, "over 13 inches up to and including 19 inches". Before 12 months of age, both sizes will compete together. At 12 months of age there is a class division for both Miniature and Standard varieties. Dogs not measuring 10" inches of height at 12 months of age, or measuring over 19" inches are disqualified from the ring.

Orchid is 16 inches tall and she weighs 35 lbs, and that is healthy for her. I'd say that that 20 lbs seems on the small side for a rat terrier according to this.

Looks like some Beagle and Pug, but we can only guess like you honey. Just love the mixed breeds as much as purebreds. Some of my best were mix of Shepherd, Beagle, collie. Loved them as much.

Yeah she's still fairly small..about 20 pounds..but still a young puppy so she has some growing to do. I need some more recent pictures of her.

I'd say pug mix. The other parts...beagle, rat terrier, chi, who knows...could be more than one other breed or the dogs bred to create your dog could have just been "bad" representations of their breed so even though papa was a rat terrier, it may not have looked very rat terrierish.

I definitely see the pug (face, tail)
